POSITION SUMMARY:

The Lead Director of Marine and Complex Fab is responsible for the overall direction and administration of the Marine and Aerospace programs and services provided by the company. This position reports to and is supervised by the VP of Fabrication. They direct and coordinate activities of the organization in accordance with identified company goals to obtain optimum efficiency, economy of operations, and maximize profits by supporting sales, production and operations on a Company-wide basis personally or through subordinate managers. Guided by the objectives of the VP of Fabrication, the Lead Director of Marine and Complex Fab provides the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure that the company has the proper personnel, operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures in place to effectively grow the organization and to ensure operating efficiency. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports the Vigor Industrial Code, vision and values through modeling the desired behaviors and communicating and reinforcing the messages through daily activities and interactions.
  • Motivate and lead a high performance management team. This includes the ability to attract, recruit and retain highly talented and motivated individuals to help support senior management to grow the business.
  • Provide mentoring as a cornerstone to the career development of high potential managers and other key individuals in the organization.
  • Further develop an already strong management team with complementary skills and abilities who understand the Company’s mission and that work together to achieve it. 
  • P&L responsibility for the business unit (Marine and Aerospace), with projected annual revenues of $80-$120 million.
  • Responsibilities in helping drive their area of the business to achieve and surpass sales, profitability, cash flow and business goals and objectives. 
  • Responsibility for the measurement and effectiveness of all processes internal and external. 
  • Develop and implement short and long-term plans to maximize efficiency of operational systems, processes and personnel to accommodate business objectives and profitability goals for the organization.
  • Spearhead the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes.
  • Interacts with key customers and assists in new business development, including Federal/State legislators and government officials.
  • Provide input to, review, approve (as appropriate) and enforce the organization plan of the operations and any of its components and changes therein.
  • Participates as a key member of the executive management team of Vigor Industrial, contributing to discussions, reviews, planning sessions and decision-making across the broader business.
  • Responsible to assist in generating operating plans and practices that foster economy throughout all operations and the best use of facilities in the interest of the Company. 
  • Continues to develop professional competencies and knowledge of fabrication through ongoing education, association participation, research and other means.
  • Responsible to assist with formulating business strategy to attain business growth plans and expansion into other markets.
  • Defining objectives and driving the organization to achieve targets.
  • Driving the company’s human resources programs in order to further develop employees and to attract high potential candidates into the organization.
  • Growing the company’s personnel and systems to accommodate a substantially larger business.

JOB SCOPE:

The position operates within established policies and procedures for the business unit, and must use sound judgment and independent decision making when carrying out job responsibilities. Has the ability to influence and recommend modifying existing protocols. Budget responsibility for this functional area is dependent on the additive value of the number of projects assigned. The programs & projects range up to $100 million in size. The role reports to the VP of Fabrication. The incumbent and staff are held accountable for the profitable performance of all assigned Complex Fab projects.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

The role supervises five or more direct reports. The aggregate team is composed of in excess of 45-60 employees, which includes professional salaried, salaried non-exempt, and multiple subcontractor companies. The role operates at a senior level, requiring more oversight but also hands on supervision.

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:

This position coordinates his/her efforts with C-level executives, vice presidents, directors, managers, and supervisors at all levels in the business unit, with extensive interactions outside this group. The position represents the Company through formal and informal interactions with the customer and with multiple subcontractors.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

BA/BS Degree or equivalent work experience is required. An MBA or equivalent broad based experience highly is preferred.

Minimum twelve (12) years of experience in general management with P&L responsibility, in a fabrication business or related industry. Additionally requires, a minimum five (7) years of experience in the following areas: managing diverse operations and related infrastructures extending to facilities as well as administrative support processes, multiple trades/craft skills, project management, and direct customer interface including relationship-building, contractual negotiations, and resolution of financial and service issues.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS: None required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced office setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the facilities. The individual may be required to be in production areas. He/she must be able to walk to and from job sites. The incumbent may be required to work more than 8-hour shifts and weekend work. There will be periodic local travel and occasional out-of-town travel (including air travel) with notice. WORK ENVIRONMENT: While in production areas, will be exposed to all weather conditions, noise, dusts and odors. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
