Village Community Resource Center (VCRC) seeks its new Executive Director. VCRC is looking for an experienced, innovative, and compassionate leader to guide VCRC in its next stage of growth and development. VCRC is a well-respected nonprofit organization that has worked alongside families in East Contra Costa County for the past twenty-five years. Position Summary

The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and is responsible for leading and managing all day-to-day operations of VCRC while supporting the Board of Directors in carrying out the nonprofit’s mission. As a leader in growing our community impact, the Executive Director models and promotes excellence, and is responsible for the tone and professional culture of the staff and volunteers, as well as the organization’s financial health. 

This full-time, exempt salaried position will require flexible scheduling and occasional weekend and evening hours. The position also requires regular offsite meetings with board members, donors, and community partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Management

  • Guide the leadership team including the Program Director and Director of Advancement and Training.
  • Ensure high-quality programming, including a commitment to continual improvement, using rigorous data, and focusing on program outcomes.
  • Nurture the unifying vision that brings together VCRC’s programs and services, with our staff team, leaders, and volunteers.
  • Work closely with program staff to ensure the implementation and effective execution of programs per agency policies, contract obligations, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Encourage transparency and input from all levels of the team.

Finance and Administration

  • Lead the development of the organization’s annual budget and oversee the fiscal management to ensure a healthy balance of income, expenses, and operating reserve.
  • Oversee fiscal management of grants, government contracts, financial reviews, audits, and other fiscal compliance activities.
  • Lead the critical business functions for the organization, including finance, HR, and legal compliance.
  • Identify, assess, and manage all risks to VCRC.

Human Resources (HR)

  • Oversee and direct implementation of HR policies and procedures.
  • Establish clear patterns of authority, responsibility, supervision, and communication with staff.
  • Establish a positive, inclusive, healthy, and safe work environment.
  • Recruit and hire qualified staff and ensure proper screening.

Fundraising, Communications, and Relationships

  • Assess fundraising, grants, community relations, earned revenue, financials, staffing structures, technology needs, etc.
  • Co-create and ensure progress tracking for an annual fund development plan with clear targets and actions, and diversified funding sources.
  • Maintain and expand a diversified revenue stream from private foundations, corporations, government, and the public.
  • Support and oversee all functions of the events, fundraisers, and new initiatives with an emphasis on growth through innovation.
  • Partner with the Advancement team to identify new funding opportunities and steward current funding relationships. 
  • Represent VCRC’s mission and vision, and build and sustain relationships with community partners, funders, families, and the public.
  • Raise visibility and promote the services of the agency.

Governance and Strategy

  • Support the Board’s strategic planning process, with significant input from the staff, volunteers, leaders, and community.
  • Provide reports to the board that ensure compliance with all their legal and fiduciary duties, including charitable filings.
  • Partner effectively with the board to ensure VCRC’s viability and adherence to the mission.
  • Oversee the organization’s execution of the strategic plan.
  • Identify, assess, and inform the board of internal and external matters that may affect VCRC.
  • Act as liaison between staff and board, fostering positive relations and a clear understanding of the respective roles and responsibilities.
  • Work with the Board of Directors and committees to organize and follow up on all meetings.

Qualifications and Work Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years in a senior nonprofit leadership role.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse interest groups including parents, clients, staff, professionals in related disciplines, grant or funding agency personnel, legislators, and members of the public. 
  • Computer competency including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Must be willing to undergo a criminal background check.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) candidates are preferred.

Demands of this Position

Must be able to assume a wide range of responsibilities, work with staff and volunteers who vary in their work styles, and work under pressure. Should be willing to work irregular, extra hours, evenings, or weekends, as necessary. Must be able to provide timely responses to requests and deadlines.

Work Environment

The primary location of this position is a typical office environment located in Brentwood; however, the responsibilities may require meetings outside the office. The Executive Director must have a valid driver’s license. Staff may also be required to attend meetings and conferences outside Brentwood from time to time.

Salary Range

This is a full-time exempt, salaried position. Your schedule may vary based on need and could extend into the evening, with some weekend hours. The exact salary will be determined upon hiring. The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $110,000 annually. VCRC offers a health reimbursement account (HRA) for all employees. Employees receive up to a 4% matching contribution to a 403b retirement plan. Benefits also include a professional development stipend, generous paid holidays, and paid time off.
