Director of Operations

Job Description:

Under general supervision from the VP Operations, oversee the safe receipt, storage, retrieval and timely dispatch of goods. They ensure workplace health and safety requirements are met and take responsibility for the security of the building and stock.

They plan the arrangement of goods within the warehouse and organize special requirements for certain stock, such as chilled goods or fragile products.

They ensure productivity targets are met and maintain computerized administration and automated storage and retrieval systems.

They manage teams of workers and deal with personnel issues such as the recruitment, training and discipline of staff.

They oversee the picking, packing and distribution activity of products.

Duties and Responsibilities:

*Maintains receiving, warehousing, and distribution operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.

*Motivates, organizes and encourages teamwork within the workforce to ensure set productivity targets are met;

*Safeguards warehouse operations and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols.

*Controls inventory levels by conducting physical counts; reconciling with data storage system in coordination with the Inventory Controller-Supervisor.

*Maintains physical condition of warehouse by planning and implementing new design layouts; inspecting equipment; issuing work orders for repair and requisitions for replacement.

*Trains staff and monitors their performance and progress.

*Achieves financial objectives by preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.

*Completes warehouse operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.

*Maintaining and overseeing the shift allocations and workings of all warehouse staff.

*Maintains warehouse staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.

*Setting and allocating targets to warehouse staff and organizing staff training activities.

*Managing the layout and set up of the warehouse for the appropriate storage of goods and supplies.

*Implementing cost cutting rules in all aspects of storehouse transactions and related activities.

*Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

*Produces regular reports and statistics on a daily, weekly and monthly basis relative to the shipping, receiving and distribution operations.

*Auditing daily labor and all billing statements.

*Managing and checking all inventory records and making evaluation reports.

*Coordinating and negotiating with transporters for dispatch of goods.

Skills and Specifications:

*Working knowledge of inventory control practices; working knowledge of fresh and frozen seafood products.

*Working knowledge of computer terminal operation. Considerable knowledge of inventory and warehouse facility management principals and procedures. Considerable knowledge of hazards and safety precautions relating to equipment operation, loading and unloading of materials.

*Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and vendors; ability to organize items by broad and specific classifications.

*Ability to follow and manage the standard safety practice and procedures common to seafood distributor; follow written and verbal instruction; and to maintain accurate records with some knowledge of mathematical conversions.

*Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word and other data entry programs.

*Strong management skills with experience in training, hiring and staffing.

*Knowledge of Co-pilot and Aspen a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
