TheVirginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Dentistry is located indowntown Richmond, Virginia. With a 130-year history, Virginia’s only dentalschool provides opportunities for selected, qualified individuals to studydentistry and oral health through a doctor of dental surgery (D.D.S) program,graduate specialty training programs and a dental hygiene program. The VCUSchool of Dentistry is one of a small number of dental schools in the countryaffiliated with an academic medical center, the only dental school in theCommonwealth, and the second oldest dental school in the U.S. It is one of fivehealth sciences academic programs on the Medical College of Virginia (MCV)Campus of VCU. The primary mission of the School of Dentistry is to educatepractitioners of Dentistry capable of meeting the general oral health needs ofthe communities they serve. Integral parts of the mission are research andother scholarly activity, patient care, and leadership in dental education andorganized dentistry, and collaboration and participation with other units withVCU and VCU Health Systems. Chief Purpose of this position: TheSchool of Dentistry’s Department of General Dentistry is seeking applicants foran adjunct faculty position in the Department of General Dentistry to provideteaching, , and patient care. This faculty position will provide didactic andclinical teaching and mentoring to pre-doctoral students and residents. Theposition’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to: teaching andmentoring undergraduate and graduate dental students in preparation for privatepractice, service, and scholarship. Methods of teaching will include clinicaland didactic teaching, , curriculum development, mentoring and patient care. Position Responsibilities: Teaching: Clinical: Required Qualifications:
Responsibilities include clinical and didactic teaching of 75-100 pre-doctoralstudents and 4-5 general practice post-doctoral residents, in the areas ofpractice management and running highly productive practices. Faculty members areexpected to teach in an integrated curriculum system that includesbaccalaureate, graduate, and professional education. Teaching acrosstraditional departmental lines and in multidisciplinary teams is required.Faculty members are expected to foster transformative learning that is informedby interdisciplinary and translational research, scholarship, and creativeexpression.
This position will provide a teaching and leadership role in the dentistryclinics, seeing patients, working with students, and working collaborativelywith other faculty and staff to promote best business practices, and increaseclinic productivity.
