Duties & Responsibilities

The Communications and Digital Content Coordinator will play a critical role in building
awareness for the VCU Division of Community Engagement, Mary and Frances Youth Center,
and VCU Health Hub at 25th, while highlighting VCU’s community engagement activities in
support of our Carnegie community engaged classification. The successful candidate will work
closely with the VCU Division of Community Engagement staff on a wide range of projects,
programs, and initiatives, bringing awareness of community engagement initiatives to VCU and
the Greater Richmond community. This role requires creativity, boldness, purpose,
receptiveness, and inquisitiveness. The Coordinator will ensure that VCU’s community
engagement successes, activities, celebrations, and themes are communicated effectively to
both internal and external stakeholders, aligning with VCU's brand and goals.

Responsibilities:


  • Utilize film, photography, and audio to document and promote VCU Community Engagement
    events, functions, and programs
  • Create and maintain content for the Division’s website and webpages for Mary and Frances
    Youth Center, VCU Health Hub at 25th, the Greater Richmond Youth Development Network,
    and RichmondYPQI
  • Produce compelling representations of diversity and inclusion through image documentation,
    editing, and presentation
  • Develop event and training posters for the Division of Community Engagement, including the
    Mary and Frances Youth Center, VCU Health Hub at 25th, the Greater Richmond Youth
    Development Network, and RichmondYPQI
  • Assist in developing newsletters, annual reports, fact sheets, and organizational overviews for
    varied audiences including donors, the VCU community, and community stakeholders
  • Collaborate on the development of the Division's email constituency lists, create new list
    segments, and ensure the visual appeal of these communications
  • Write and edit content for the VCU Division of Community Engagement website, blogs, and
    social media posts
  • Follow the VCU Quest 2028 Strategic Plan and DCE strategic priorities as a guideline for all
    communications and shared content
  • Collaborate closely with the VCU Communications team to ensure alignment of Division
    branding and messaging with the university's overall communications
  • Provide oversight and support to part-time or student workers in communications to ensure
    alignment with Division brand and VCU Communications expectations
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or 2 years of professional
    experience managing successful marketing and/or social media campaigns
  • Experience with various communications channels such as web-based, broadcast, print
    media, and social media platforms
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Canva, Adobe Suite, MailChimp, and Wordpress
  • Solid knowledge of Google Suite

Minimum Qualifications:

  •  Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including writing, editing,
    and proofreading
  • Knowledge of VCU policies and procedures related to communication
  • Previous experience working with activities related to community engagement and community-
    based activities
  • Previous experience supervising students working on community engagement activities
  • Experience working with university and community stakeholders to develop communication
    content
  • Ability to cultivate a positive and productive workplace through communication, vision,
    teamwork, and commitment
  • Self-motivated, strategic, creative, entrepreneurial, and energetic
  • Flexibility and willingness to perform a wide range of tasks as necessary
  • Problem-solving skills using sound judgment and professional discretion
  • Strong work ethic and time management skills
