Duties & Responsibilities

Position Summary: 

The Fiscal Technicianprovides finance-related customer service and operational support to Basic Health Science Departments, Biochemistry, Physiology and Genetics. Theposition will function as part of a team under the department financialmanager. Duties include managingdepartment and faculty purchase requests; assisting with travel arrangementsand reports; managing all Banner financial transactions; analyzing expendituresand encumbrances; reconciling and maintaining transaction records for alldepartmental funding sources; assisting the Departmental Records Manager, andother department duties as assigned.

Job Duties: 

  • Submit purchase orders through VCU Real Source and create P-card purchases
  • Provide fiscal administrative support by preparing and processingprocurement and travel and expense reimbursements
  • Reconciliating accounts on a monthly basis matching expenses todocumentation
  • Maintain university document per university policies
  • Responds to and resolves issues regarding invoices, receiving, and otherA/P related matters in a professional, courteous, timely, and accurate manner
  • Assists with other departmental duties as assigned
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Preferred Bachelor's degree in accounting,finance, or public administration and/or equivalent experience with fiscalresponsibilities, or combination of education, training, and experience
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to review, analyze, and interpret data based on a working knowledge of state and departmental policies and procedures
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office Excel (must be able to demonstrate skills using a variety of functions in Excel and be willing to take advanced professional development to enhance skills)
  • Must have excellent attention to details and be task-oriented and proactive with resolving issues in an efficient manner
  • Must have excellent organizational skills
  • Must have a demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in past experiences or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience using financial recordkeeping and/or procurement softwaresystems such as Banner Finance or VCU Real Source
  • Experience with making purchases, coordinating travel, or other financial responsibilities is preferred
