Duties & Responsibilities

VCU Athletics is seeking a passionate and experienced Head Men's Golf Coach to oversee the coaching and training of student-athletes at the NCAA Division l level in men's golf. 


Summary:
The primary purpose of the Head Men's Golf Coach is to oversee the coaching and training of student-athletes at the NCAA Division I level in the sport of men's golf to prepare them for competition in local, regional, and national arenas. Reporting to the Sr. Associate AD for Student Services & NIL, the Head Coach will promote the execution of the Athletic Department's strategic plan by adhering to its mission and core values and acting upon its goals and strategies.

Typical Duties


Coaching
Oversee coaching & training of student-athletes at the NCAA Division l level to prepare them for competition in local, regional and national arenas;
Manage scheduling of all matches for the men's golf team;
Secure travel arrangements involved with recruitment, matches, and tournament or manage staff to do the same; and,
Monitor the retention and academic progress of student-athletes.
Recruiting/Evaluating Prospective Student-Athletes
Successful evaluation and recruitment of academically qualified and athletically talented student-athletes;
Train and manage staff to do the same; and
Maintain accurate files of current and prospective student-athletes.

Administrative Tasks
Be aware of and remain in compliance with NCAA, A10, State, and University regulations regarding NCAA Division l Men's Golf;
Maintain required NCAA, A10, State and University paperwork;
Maintain responsibility for the fiscal and budgetary functions associated with the Men's Golf program or manage staff to do the same; and
Promote execution of the Athletic Department's strategic plan by adhering to its mission and core values and acting upon its goals and strategies.

Management/Supervision
Supervise the conduct of the assistant coach, and their activities, including compliance with NCAA rules, and provide annual and mid-year evaluations.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
Class "A" PGA membership;
Previous coaching experience in the sport of men's golf at the NCAA Division I level;
Professional playing experience; and
An advanced degree or training and work experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree.

Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree;
A demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU;
Knowledge and experience with NCAA Division I rules and regulations; and
Previous coaching experience in the sport of golf.

Typical Licensure
Must have First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications or achieve certifications within 30 days of hire.
In accordance with the university's "Vehicle Accident Prevention and Safety" policy and since a condition of your employment is to drive University vehicles in order to transport student-athletes, the following is required:
1. Valid driver's license
2. Annual review of driving record
3. Successful completion of the National Safety Council online defensive driving course.
4. Successful completion of "Behind the Wheel" training administered by VCU Police
5. Successful completion of the department's online "Van Driving Safely" course.
