Chief Purpose of this position:
The Department ofInternal Medicine, Divisions of Nephrology, Virginia Commonwealth University isseeking a Nephrologist/Critical Care Physician for our Internal MedicineServices in Richmond, Virginia to contribute to and enhance the educational andclinical activities of the divisions of Nephrology and Critical Care Medicineby providing compassionate, efficient, high quality consultative patient carein outpatient and inpatient settings and support the research goals of thedivisions and department.
Position Responsibilities:
Teaching | Teach fellows, residents and medical studentsusing adult teaching methods that enhance and encourage active learning andongoing professional development. Faculty are expected to learn about and applycontemporary adult learning methods to promote evidence-based practice anddemonstrate effective teaching skills and continually develop as a teacher forlearners at all levels. In addition, faculty may participate in other learningactivities such as Foundations of Clinical Medicine, resident didactic series,Grand Rounds, morning report, noon conference, and other formal educationalprograms for undergraduate and post-graduate learners.
Research | Faculty have opportunities to participate in clinical andadministrative research, according to skills, interest, and funding. Researchopportunities may include performance improvement initiatives or formal extramurallyfunded investigations. participation may be as principal investigator orco-investigator. In order to advance in rank, faculty are expected to developan area of expertise and achieve recognition of this expertise.
Service | Faculty are expected to work with institutional staff andadministration to attain the strategic objectives of VCU Health System,including patient safety, patient satisfaction, maintenance andenhancement of public perception, and fiscal health. Faculty have numerousopportunities to engage in committee work and lead health system efforts toenhance quality.
Clinical | Faculty will be working with the Divisions of Nephrology andPulmonary/Critical Care Medicine as an Attending Physician on rotations thatinclude: inpatient nephrology consults with a focus on patients with liverdisease; inpatient and outpatient dialysis; and inpatient critical carerotations at the main campus in VCU Downtown.
Other |Faculty should comply in a timely manner with all institutionalpolicies for professional work including credentialing, documentation, billingand work effectively with other members of the extended interprofessional team.
Required Qualifications:
  • Boardcertification or eligibility in Internal Medicine and Nephrology and completionof accredited fellowship in General Nephrology
  • Directexperience managing complex inpatients and outpatients, and an interest inacademic work including teaching, professional development, and qualityimprovement
  • Demonstratedability to work as a member of a team and effectively communicate in bothverbal and written formats
  • Demonstratedexperience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and studentenvironment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

  • Demonstratedachievement as an educator, scholar, clinician, and/or leader
