Job Description
This position will be located in Alexandria, VA in the DC metro area. The educator will deliver youth development programming to a large number of urban youths.
Success in the position will require developing partnerships with other agencies and a strong volunteer recruitment, training, and management program.
The 4-H Youth Development Agent is a professional educator who provides leadership to the local 4-H program and manages its day-to-day operation.
4-H is a community of young people learning leadership, citizenship, and life skills. The mission of 4-H is to develop youth, and adults working with those youth, to realize their full potential and become effective, contributing citizens.
This is achieved through the development and delivery of research based, non-formal, hands-on educational experiences.
coordinates day-to-day activities and events associated with the unit 4-H program including 4-H delivery (community 4-H clubs, project 4-H clubs, school enrichment 4-H, afterschool 4-H, special interest 4-H, and 4-H camping).
Required Qualifications
Must have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS) in a relevant discipline from an accredited college or university. Knowledge and experience in planning, conducting, and evaluating Extension or non-formal education programs;
a personal commitment to program development and delivery; a personal commitment to working with diverse clientele and colleagues, and a willingness to further the civil rights goals of Virginia Cooperative Extension.
Extension Agents demonstrate flexibility, adaptability; a team-oriented mindset, yet are able to work independently. A strong desire to help clients succeed.
Extension agents recognize the importance of diversity and inclusion in the development and delivery of Extension programs, actively work to diversify program participation and are responsible for VCE's civil rights policies and compliance with affirmative action.
The person in this position is expected to travel to provide in-person leadership and to build community partnerships with few exceptions for telework.

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree. Prior experience with extension programs. Experience working with diverse youth populations in urban environments, preferably in a youth development or community education setting.
Knowledge of 4-H principles, curriculum, and programming, with a commitment to the 4-H mission of positive youth development.
Strong facilitation, training, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with partners and stakeholders.
