Job Duties
The Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind is seeking a Housekeeping Worker to provide cleaning support to a residential school for students with disabilities. This is a full-time position with full state benefits. The work schedule is 6:00am - 2:30pm, Monday - Friday; however, the candidate may be asked to work an alternate schedule based on the needs of the school, including altered summer hours and for special events or projects.

Responsibilities include:
•Cleaning and sanitation
•Maintenance of supplies and equipment in facilities
•Floor care
•Trash removal and sanitation
•Identifying and reporting work area deficiencies and taking appropriate corrective action
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
•Working knowledge and experience in performing residential space cleaning
•Ability to understand safety, sanitation, and cleanliness needs
•Ability to give and receive instruction in verbal and in written form
•Proficiency level of "Novice" in American Sign Language as measured by the Sign Language Proficiency Scale or agreement to acquire the specified level within three years
•Current CPR and First Aid certification is required or must be obtained in accordance with school policy
•Willingness to work alternate schedules as needed
•Working knowledge of the operation of manual and power cleaning equipment preferred
•Working knowledge of classroom and office space cleaning tasks preferred
•Working knowledge of commercial (non-industrial) cleaning tasks preferred

Physical Requirements:
•Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds
•Ability to perform repetitive motion to include standing, sitting, reaching, lifting, walking, bending, and climbing
•Ability to tolerate temperature variations
•Ability to tolerate contact with cleaning products and solutions
