The School Board of Prince George County Public Schools invites applications and nominations for the position of Superintendent.

The County

Located 25 miles southeast of Richmond, Prince George County finds its home in the heart of Southside Virginia. Bordered on the north by the James River and the City of Hopewell and on the west by the Appomattox River and the City of Petersburg, the county's rich centuries-long history is showcased through the community's Regional Heritage Center and Petersburg National Park, the site of major battles during the Civil War.

Prince George County is nestled between the natural splendor of both the famed Blue Ridge Mountains and the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean, each just two hours beyond the county's borders. Premiere entertainment, sports, and historic attractions find their home to 30 minutes to the county's north in the City of Richmond.

The Division

Prince George County Public Schools serves a total of 6,181 students.

Prince George County Public Schools is home to nine schools that serve the educational needs of our children.

National Blue Ribbon School

The district has been honored with a National Blue Ribbon School designation (L.L. Beazley Elementary School) based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. 

Virginia Dept. of Education Purple Star School Designation

Six of our campuses, namely L.L. Beazley Elementary, D.A. Harrison Elementary, Middle Road Elementary, North Elementary, South Elementary, and J.E.J. Moore Middle, have been honored as Virginia Purple Star Schools. This recognition underscores our unwavering commitment to supporting military-connected students and families in our communities.

Virginia Music Educators Association's Blue Ribbon Award

Prince George High School's Royals Marching Band and the high school's choir have been recognized with the VEMA Blue Ribbon Award, the highest award given to school music programs in Virginia, and recognizes excellence achieved in band, orchestra, and choral performances.

VSBA Excellence in Workforce Readiness

The district's annual Technology Field Day showcase, a division-wide, technology-oriented event geared toward PGCPS fifth-grade students, was recognized by the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) and its Excellence in Workforce Readiness Awards. The VSBA's program highlights exemplary programs in Virginia's public schools focused on preparing the state's future workforce. 

The school division employs a total of 860 full-time and 88 part-time staff members, including both professional and support staff. The division has an on-time graduation rate of 93.57%.

Education and Training:

• Doctorate degree preferred

• Experience as an associate/assistant superintendent (required)

• Proven ethical leadership with experience in strategic planning and a vision for Prince George County Public Schools

Board-Superintendent Relations:

• Ability to create a climate and culture of mutual trust and respect by maintaining open channels of communication to and from staff, being visible in the schools, and encouraging staff development and professional growth

• Has a process for recruiting and selection of top-quality staff members

• Knows the law concerning personnel policies and procedures

Community Relations:

• Effectively advocates for school issues and needs

• Communicates effectively with both private and public stakeholders, including parents and community members

• Responds to individual concerns in appropriate manner

School Finance:

• Lobbies for school funding on behalf of the school division

• Develops and explains the rationale for the budget to the Board and local officials

• Offers creative funding solutions

Residency in Prince George County preferred.
