Virginia Tech is Hiring a Senior Landscape Maintenance Worker (Beautification Crew) Near Blacksburg, VA
Job DescriptionIncumbent will serve as a crew leader for specific projects and perform tasks that include flower bed installation and maintenance, fertilizer and pesticide applications, bed maintenance (weeding) and mulching. Position is also responsible for tasks including routine grounds maintenance and snow removal.

Required Qualifications
- Must possess a Registered Technician License and be able to obtain a Certified Fertilizer Applicator License within 12 months of employment.
- Experience in general grounds maintenance and/or landscape installation and maintenance.
- Ability to work independently and direct the work of a small crew of Grounds Landscape Maintenance Workers in the completion of specific task.
- Ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing 50 pounds or more; ability to maneuver materials up and down stairs; ability to climb and work from elevated work stations such as ladders and scaffolds; ability to work for long periods of time standing, walking, reaching, bending, pushing/pulling; ability to communicate effectively, have good team work skills, and be able to understand, comprehend and follow directions in the workplace.
- Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
- May be required to work additional hours/shifts to meet the needs of the department.
- This is a designated emergency personnel position.
- Experience in a large commercial or educational setting.
- Commercial Pesticide Applicators License Category 3A & 3B.
- Experience applying pesticides and fertilizers.
- Experience leading small work groups in the completion of landscaping related task.
