Location: Short Pump Office at 12129 Graham Meadows Drive, Richmond, VA 23233
Full-time Opening: 40 hours/week
Scheduled Shifts: Monday - Friday, optional Saturday (1/2 day) morning shifts available
Scheduled Hours: primarily 8:00am - 4:30pm with 30-minute lunch break
Summary: Provide professional nursing care for office patients following established standards and practices. The nurse demonstrates critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, and leadership in the anticipation and planning for the care of the patient.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Greets patients and prepares patients for and assists with examinations; instructs patients in collection of samples and tests.
2. Administers injections and medications, provides wound care and incision checks, interprets physician’s instructions to patients, assists with minor surgery, aids physician during treatments, examinations, and patient testing.
3. Performs voiding trials for patients.
4. Prepares equipment; cleans and sterilizes instruments and equipment per OSHA guidelines.
5. Conducts microscopic urinalysis evaluation using Clinitek Status.
6. Inserts Foley Catheters and SP tubes.
7. Evaluates urine cultures, proceeds with treatment based on established protocols. Sends results for review by a physician.
8. Enters/updates current medications into EMR.
9. Instructs the patient and/or family regarding medication, treatment instructions, or health care information as needed. Provide patient teaching regarding pessary use.
10. Refills patient prescriptions based on office protocols.
11. Notifies patients of test results as directed by the physician.
12. Arranges pre-op labs, and follow-up arrangements for further testing or treatment when necessary.
13. Calls post-op patients as required by the physician.
14. Maintains stock of supplies and medications.
15. Maintains logbook of cold sterilization process.
16. Oversees schedule of appointments and ensures preferences are given to patients in emergency situations. Maintains timely flow of patients.
17. Maintains and updates surveillance of test results in EMR system and Patient Safety report.
18. Attends required meetings.
19. Complies with Virginia Women's Center’s policies and procedures. Follows guidelines required by HIPAA, OSHA, and CLIA regulations. Maintains appropriate attendance and punctuality as defined by Virginia Women's Center.

Education, Experience, and/or Licensure

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

Virginia State Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse license

CPR certification

Previous urology specialty experience including cystoscopy and urethral dilation
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Varied activities including sitting, walking, stooping, lifting, bending, and reaching. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to use a variety of office equipment including phone, computer, keyboard, fax; and medical equipment including stethoscope, scales, microscope, and blood-pressure cuff. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Work Environment
Combination of medical office and exam/procedure room settings. Potential for exposure to hazards/blood borne pathogens. Hepatitis B and TB test required.
