• Planning & Analysis: Metrics & unit economics studies, financial driver-based models, strategic planning processes, ops planning & budgeting.
• Operations Transformations: (re)buildouts of core functions including commercial, finance, and HR operations; interim exec services and support with insourcing talent.
• Transaction Readiness & Support: Guide and facilitate fundraising and M&A processes including development of company presentations, providing modeling and quantitative storytelling, and acting as transaction PMO with data room management.

Founded by a former CFO/COO and a team of operators to be, we act as a hands-on extension of clients’ teams when speed and clear vision are critical to success. We identify what must be true strategically, operationally, and financially to unlock the next chapter, working backwards to achieve success. We then roll up our sleeves, dig in, and build alongside our clients until it’s time to help raise money or explore an exit.

About the Role:

We are looking for seek a Senior Finance Consultant to join our team and work closely with our Partners to deliver FP&A and controllership services to our clients. You will be an embedded, fractional member of our clients’ businesses, often being one of the first “insourced” team members to help build out the function.. You will play a pivotal role in building out a scalable finance function that covers multiple regions, collaborating closely with client personnel and Virgo’s engagement team(s) to develop and implement policies, procedures, and controls that align with business objectives. This is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional who thrives in fast-paced environments, loves to build, and is passionate about driving organizational success through process and analysis.

Quarterly Gatherings: We meet in-person at least once per quarter for collaborative planning, decision-making, and team building. Advance notice is provided and attendance is expected barring extenuating circumstances.

Location: Candidates should be within commuting distance to New York City. Relocation assistance is not provided. This role can be fully remote or hybrid; our Manhattan facilities are typically used one or two days per week.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Operations

• Oversee daily financial operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and financial reporting across multiple entities, locally and internationally.
• Analyze processes and controls, implementing improvements for efficiencies and enhanced control environments.
• Identify and evaluate software tools to streamline finance operations and enable lean scalability.

Financial Reporting

• Support monthly/quarterly closing processes, implementing best practices to shorten the close cycle.
• Review balance sheet account reconciliations to identify inaccuracies and propose corrections.
• Assist with audit readiness by documenting accounting policies, process narratives, and robust account reconciliations.
• Prepare timely internal financial statements and management reports for quarterly board decks.

Financial Planning and Analysis

• Assist in designing and reporting key financial and operational metrics.
• Support financial model upkeep and refinement for strategic decision-making and scenario planning.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of comprehensive financial strategies, including budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide financial analysis, enhancing business visibility and insight.

Transaction Support

• Support financial due diligence and analysis for fundraising, mergers, and acquisitions.
• Contribute toward the development of presentation materials and reports for investor presentations.
• Design and manage customer data rooms.

Client Engagement

• Support clients on financial and operational matters, offering insights and recommendations.
• Participate in client meetings to gather information, present findings, and discuss analyses.
• Build strong relationships with clients' staff at junior and director levels to support the financial needs and goals of the company.

Desired Qualifications and Skills:

• 5-8 years of progressive finance experience, preferably with auditing or advisory experience in a Big 4 accounting firm and FP&A experience in a corporate/high-growth startup environment.
• Strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles, particularly revenue recognition and consolidations.
• Ability to understand and interpret a start-up company’s balance sheet, financial objectives, and cash runway.
• Basic understanding of the of the tax landscape, financial regulations, standards, and best practices across multiple regions including the US, Canada, UK, EU and Australia.
• Familiarity with financial metrics and benchmarks, particularly those relevant to SaaS companies.
• Experience in financial modeling, strategic planning, and financial analysis.
• Proven ability to solve complex financial problems and drive results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills with the ability to build rapport and credibility at all levels of the organization.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and presentation design (predominantly within Microsoft PowerPoint).
• Experience partnering with global teams and managing finance initiatives in diverse environments.
• CPA or equivalent qualification is desirable.
• Familiarity with Quickbooks, Notion is a plus.
