Senior SQL Server DBA

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Own our enterprise database environment globally.
• Technical leadership and strategic planning for our database environment and solutions.
• Day-to-day activities regarding the upkeep and availability of all SQL Server database servers in the environment, including lower environments.
• Establish processes for 'Follow the Sun' support to ensure 7x24 SQL availability using existing resources by training and documentation.
• Source external resources to support DBA resource unavailability, such as vacation and conflicting project activities.
• Create and maintain documentation to support configuration management of the shared database environment.
• Perform database enterprise environment capacity planning and availability management.
• Consult and advise senior management on high-impact database solutions and database management topics.
• Lead multiple infrastructure planning and implementation, including instance strategy, technical platform selection, architecture design, backup, and recovery strategy.
• Gather business requirements and translate these into clearly defined plans.
• Research and implement performance improvement tools/techniques to our SQL Server databases, including data storage, logging, in-memory object/databases, tuning tools, and
• performance monitoring tools.
• Administer SQL databases, monitoring backups, space utilization, and software updates.
• Review backup and recovery strategy quarterly and work with Operations to maintain and test disaster recovery databases.
• Design and implement high-availability solutions for business-critical database applications.
• Ensure compliance with SOX Audit Requirements includes adhering to correct security request procedures, conducting quarterly reviews, and providing SOX evidence in a timely and accurate manner.
• Establish a 'Follow the Sun' support model for 24x7 SQL availability.
• Troubleshoot SQL Server service outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekends, while providing frequent and clear communication to IT Management.
• Configure SQL Server monitoring utilities to minimize false alarms.
• As new Enterprise systems are brought in-house, choose whether to use clustering, log shipping, mirroring, Windows Azure, or other technologies.
• Install and configure new SQL Servers.
• Deploy database change scripts provided by third-party vendors.
• When performance issues arise, determine the most effective way to increase performance, including hardware purchases, server configuration changes, or index/query changes.
• Document the company's database environment.

This opportunity is a six-month contract-to-hire position in Kennesaw. After the 1st two weeks, you can telecommute up to two days a week. REQUIRED SKILLS:

• 5 years of SQL Server database design and administration experience
• Technical leadership experience, including the ability to take ownership of our database environment and do strategic planning to make sure our database environment meets the business growth plans and needs
• Solarwinds experience
• 5 years of experience in database, systems, and infrastructure architecture
• 3 years of experience with database virtualization and high-availability solutions
• 3 years of experience with Replication solutions
• SQL Server Enterprise database architecture experience – sizing version 2014, 2016, and 2017, high-level understanding of how backup, high availability, BCP, and capacity planning are designed and implemented in a SQL Server shared consolidated environment
• Ability to plan project timelines, schedules, and resources and successfully deliver projects on time and budget
• Advanced SQL Server replication, clustering knowledge
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and trace data-related issues throughout the architecture
• Excellent communication skills (especially keeping the team and management informed of database issues and project status)
