Safety Supervisor

Reports to: Director of Safety & Risk Management

Classification: Seasonal,Non-Exempt

Summary

The Safety Supervisor will play a key role in ensuring all projects comply with local, state, and federal health and safety (OSHA) guidelines and procedures. This role will ensure the safety of all employees, make sure all projects are up to code, and provide advice and recommendations for safety improvements. The Safety Supervisor will also provide project monitoring, safety reporting, and engage staff in programs that ensure safe practice in the workplace.

Essential Functions

  • Comply with all occupational health and safety OSHA guidelines.
  • Inspect worksites and review working conditions.
  • Document reports of occurrences and record statistical information.
  • Develop and implement OSHA training programs.
  • Maintain safety regulations during installations.
  • Oversee disposal of substances according to environmental guidelines.
  • Ensure statutes, regulations, and codes are clearly understood and met.
  • Intervene to stop any acts or processes that are unsafe or do not comply with OSHA guidelines.
  • Implement preventative measures to ensure unsafe processes are not repeated.
  • Ensure all personnel follow all personal safety precautions (hardhats, protective goggles, etc.).
  • Update procedures and policies for new regulations, local ordinances, and OSHA guidelines.
  • Oversee workplace repair, installations, and any other work that could harm employees' safety.
  • Implement preventative measures to ensure unsafe processes are not repeated.
  • Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to physical, and other work hazards.
  • Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
  • Review employee safety programs to determine their adequacy.
  • Conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to organizations on how to handle health-related problems and make needed changes.
  • Maintain liaisons with outside organizations such as fire departments, mutual aid societies, and rescue teams, so that emergency responses can be facilitated.
  • Write and revise safety regulations and codes.
  • Compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data related to occupational illnesses and accidents.
  • Plan and implement OSHA policies and programs.
  • Advise and lead employees on various safety-related topics.
  • Prepare educational seminars and webinars on a regular basis.
  • Review existing policies and procedures ensuring OSHA compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, occupational safety and health, or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 2 years of previous experience in comprehensive workplace safety and compliance programs.
  • Solid knowledge of state and local statutes and ordinances on fire safety and prevention, loss control, hazardous chemicals, building, electrical, noise pollution, and the environment.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
  • Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and walk throughout the workday.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel).
  • Up to date on the latest local and state regulations and guideline changes.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
