Job Purpose:

The Communication Associate, Road Safety will provide communication support to market Vital Strategies’ Road Safety Program and support in-country teams for the governments of Asia, Africa, and Latin America where technical assistance is provided to reduce road deaths.

This is a full-time position based in our New York office, where a hybrid, 2-day-per-week office schedule is in place. Vital Strategies offers highly competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits. The salary range for this position is $55,000 - $63,000 USD USD. The candidate must have authorization to work legally in the US at the time of hire.

Duties & Responsibilities:

· In collaboration with global team members, identifies opportunities for, and generates drafts of program op-eds.

· Assists Vital Strategies’ experts in researching and identifying thought leadership opportunities for the drafting of supporting materials accordingly.

· Drafts social media text for regional campaigns and relevant road safety news.

· Contributes to the review of campaign announcements.

· Helps draft content for Vital Strategies’ blog, including Q&As and location features.

· Serves as program focal point for Vital Strategies products including the organization’s annual report.

· Contributes toward strengthening the team’s capacity regarding reporting structures, style, and storytelling.

· Administers the road safety team’s photo storage system.

· Reviews and compiles presentation materials as needed.

· Supports the review of weekly reports from program locations and compiles updates for a monthly communication report to partners, including updates on key events, media coverage, and social media content.

· Compiles semi-annual and annual road safety donor reports.

· Prompts team submissions for, review, and submittal to the BIGRS monthly newsletter.

· Liaises with Vital’s editorial team on copyediting requests and program updates to corporate materials such as Vital’s website, annual report, and capability statement.

· Supports updates to Vital’s road safety Media Beacon entries: prepares information for selected Vital Strategies PSAs.

· Research international examples, including WHO, and contacts owners regarding licensing formalities.

· Supports additional communication-related activities, as needed.

· Other responsibilities as assigned by the Deputy Director.

Qualifications:

Education & Degree -

· Bachelor's degree in a communication-related major preferred.

Skills & Abilities -

· Achieved the highest level of English proficiency in both verbal and writing.

· Professional editing and writing ability in English with a strong understanding of AP style.

· Organized, responsible, and has the capacity to work independently with excellent attention to details.

· Has interest and understanding of public health issues, ideally road safety or urban development.

· Has experience working in an international team environment.

· Ability to work with colleagues across multiple time zones.

· Interested in and has an understanding of digital and social media.

· Self-motivated and excellent time management with the ability to meet deadlines.

· Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, including experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

· Extremely well organized and highly attentive to detail.

· Able to manage multiple projects on strict deadlines.

· Ability to work as part of a team, particularly in multi-cultural, multi-regional contexts.

· Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.

Experience:

Required -

· Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in a Communication-related position;

· Experience editing and writing content in the English language for various sources.

· Experience using the AP style.

Preferred -

· Global non-for-profit experience.

· Public Health experience.
