Job Description Summary:The Inpatient Cook works with the Chef and the interdisciplinary team. The Cook will prepare meals according to all health and safety standards and dietary requirements of the patients. The Cook will ensure that meals are prepared according to Dietary recommendations. Respects and promotes the mission, vision, and values of VNA Health. Job Duties:
Prepares meals according to all health and safety standards, in accordance with licensing requirements and Dietary recommendations
Works with interdisciplinary team to provide meals that satisfy the terminally ill patient
Works with the chef to monitor use of all food items
Help assure that patient’s food preferences are adhered to as much as possible; and substitutes for all food refused shall be from appropriate food groups
Therapeutic diets shall be provided for each patient as prescribed and shall be planned, prepared and served with supervision and/or consultation from the Chef and dietician
Maintains accurate records of refrigeration
Cleans and maintains a safe kitchen environment, equipment, and all patient food utensils and items
Works with the chef to adhere to Serenity House budget

Position Qualifications:
Certified Cook (preferred but not required)
Hospice and home care experience preferred
Understanding of the nutritional needs of the terminally ill
Understanding of the psychosocial issues of food and care giving
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work well individually and in cooperation with an interdisciplinary group
Basic working knowledge and skill of computers (email) required
Must have ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with professionals and lay group
Reliable transportation
Physical Qualifications:
Ability to lift, push or pull 50 lbs
Ability to stoop, bend and squat
Ability to walk up one flight of stairs
Ability to walk one mile
Ability to sit for one hour, minimum
Visual acuity
Audio acuity
