Job description

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design jigs and fixtures for machining, welding and plate manufacturing operations.
  • Make sure all programs operate in a manner that keeps all employees safe.
  • Comply with all applicable safety policies and regulations, especially in manufacturing areas. 
  • Maintain the tool system for stocking, tracking, usage, and ordering of hand tools, carbide inserts and other small consumable tooling for the shop floor.
  • Make sure all programs create a quality product that meets all quality standards.
  • Work with QA and productions to ensure first article proof run is complete and within tolerances. 
  • Designs fixtures for machining, assembly, welding and punching.
  • Assists in the maintenance, installation, and commissioning of machinery, equipment, and facilities in the plant.
  • Make sure all CNC programming is complete and correct.
  • Ensure programs are issued in a timely manner and in advance of production schedule needs. 
  • Maintain the system to control all CNC programs to aid in the manufacture of recurring parts.
  • Research the processes and present ideas to result in the most efficient and cost-effective manufacturing methods and selection of appropriate cutting tools.
  • Monitor operations on machines to assure that the proper tooling, cutters, and cutting speeds are being utilized.
  • Reduce machining costs by the implementation of improved tooling methods, and speeds.
  • Support employees with CNC program questions and issues, operator assistance and tooling issues.
  • Aids in training of CNC Operators.
  • Liaison with external customers with tooling or other issues.
  • Cooperates and interacts with all levels of personnel with a teamwork approach.
  • Adhere to Nortrak’s Safety, Quality and Environment Procedures, Practices and Policies. 

Qualifications

QUALITIFCATIONS:

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • College degree in manufacturing technology or programming is preferred or equivalent experience including CNC programming experience in a heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be responsible, attentive, and detail oriented. 
  • Knowledgeable in MS office standard and special programs, and SAP applications. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS: (e.g. education, experience, skills and desired competencies)

  • High School graduate or GED preferred.
  • Welding, Forklift and Crane certification preferred.
  • Ability to read work orders and blueprints preferred.
  • Experience with measuring tools preferred.
  • Basic mathematical calculation experience in adding and subtracting whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Experience in Railroad Industry is a plus.

PHYSCIAL DEMANDS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or climbing.
  • Must be able to lift or handle up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasional travel may be required which includes walking, standing, sitting and driving from short to long periods of time.

We are currently looking for a CNC Programmer to join our team in Birmingham, Alabama. 

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Reporting directly to the Production Manager, the CNC programmer is responsible for writing all programs for the CNC machines to ensure the most efficient and effective use of CNC Machines in the manufacture of customer requirements and schedules.
