Volunteers of America SELA is Hiring a Peer Recovery Coach Near Orleans, LA

JOB SUMMARY:

The New Orleans Peer Recovery Coach (NOPRC), under the supervision of the Family Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Specialist, is responsible for providing peer support and family-focused care coordination to pregnant and parenting women who use substances. The NOPRC will function as a guide and role model for women from their first encounter with the program through long-term aftercare. The NOPRC will serve as a peer and advocate to persons served. The NOPRC performs a wide range of tasks to assist persons served in regaining independence within the community and mastery over their own recovery process.

This individual will support the opening of Family Focused Recovery’s Residential Center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the Assistant Vice President of Integrated & Behavioral Health in the successful completion of the Implementation and Evaluation Phases of the Regional Partnership Grant (RPG), including adherence to RPG Research requirements.
  • Work closely with the FFR team to ensure the provision of team-based care for all persons served is high quality, efficient, and in compliance with all accreditation and funding source requirements.
  • Conduct outreach activities in the community to stakeholders and potential persons served about VOASELA’s services and FFR Program offerings.
  • Complete screening of persons referred to FFR to confirm eligibility. Provide referrals as needed to persons ineligible for FFR. Conduct admission with persons eligible for FFR per established workflow.
  • Conduct global needs assessment and plan with persons served to guide delivery of peer support services and family-focused care coordination. Provide peer support and care coordination to persons served:
    • Provides harm reduction services, including education and support as persons served increase motivation to access higher levels of care.
    • Provides specific information about recovery and recovery processes, including sharing personal recovery journey with persons served.
    • Transport and/or accompany persons served to community-based settings to assist them in accessing needed resources and/or practicing newly acquired skills.
    • Support persons served with de-escalation and crisis management in collaboration with the FFR Clinicians.
  • In collaboration with the FFR team, facilitate the development of the NOPRC Model.
  • Record accurate information on each person served in VOASELA’s Electronic Health System in a timely manner.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Non-essential)

  • Assists VOASELA and FFR staff in creating and maintaining a recovery-oriented environment.
  • Provides support to all FFR program activities, including Child Watch.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

This position requires knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to:

  • Lived experience with a substance use disorder diagnosis with at least 12 months (24-36 months or more preferred) of continuous demonstrated recovery. Registered Peer Support Specialist credential must be obtained within three months of hire).
  • At least 1 year of experience working with women experiencing substance use disorders.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed and culturally sensitive practices. Dedication to the creation of a racially equitable continuum of care for pregnant and parenting women who use substances and their children.
  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Expertise within Electronic Health Systems.
  • Ability to interact with staff at all levels in a respectful manner, remaining flexible, proactive, and task-oriented.
  • Problem-solving ability, attention to detail, accuracy, flexibility, reliability, and prioritizing skills.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality per HIPAA and CFR 42 Part 2.
  • This position provides services in office and in community settings.
  • This position transports persons served frequently using personal or agency vehicle.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current driver’s license issued by state of residence
  • Current Vehicle Inspection decal
  • Current vehicle insurance
  • Current vehicle registration in state of residence
  • Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report
  • Must be able to pass a criminal history investigation (not all convictions will exclude candidates from being hired).
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must complete TB screening and testing on an annual basis.
  • Must be able to main CPR certification.
