Vortex® - Solids & Bulk Handling Components is Hiring a Safety Coordinator Near Salina, KS

The right candidate will be responsible for a variety of clerical duties and technical tasks for the safety department to support personnel in the three Salina, KS facilities. This candidate will work closely with the Safety Manager and others supporting the Vortex culture of safety. They will interact with others during "safety walks," training activities, and drills. They must utilize an
"owners' mindset" as they interact with others, and lead by example to promote a high standard of safety, so employees know and understand the expected behaviors.
Learning Management System (LMS) administration and effectiveness improvement are critical tasks for this position. LMS management includes managing employee training assignments; data entry; report generation; and responding to questions; and assisting in selecting / developing learning materials such as "safety talk", presentations and/or training courses for use via the LMS. Having the drive to learn new software as well as help develop and utilize it will be beneficial.
Major Responsibilities:
  • Administrative tasks in the various safety software applications including data entry with accuracy and confidentiality
    • Learning Management System - manage training content, assignments, and reports. Assist in the development/selection of training content.
    • Safety Walk Inspections - employee team audits and education in the field.
    • Incident Management System - assist processing reported Near Miss and Safety Incidents. Assist Operations personnel as needed to conduct quality investigation and determining corrective actions to prevent incident recurrence.
    • Safety Suggestion Program - assist in processing, clarifying the employee suggestions, and facilitating implementation of the suggestions as needed.
    • E-Document Management - help manage document version and retention as needed.
    • Training Compliance - process, track and communication training compliance.
    • DOT Driver Management - work with a small fleet of drivers to manage the required driver records in the JJ Keller and DOT Record Systems.
    • Creating reports - support the Operations team's compliance efforts by providing information such as the safety task status corrective actions, missing documents, missing training, etc
  • Conducting and/or oversight of the safety-related equipment inspections such as first aid cabinets, AED equipment, spill kits, and fire extinguishers.
  • May assist by transporting non-life-threatening injured colleagues for directed care.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED training-Preferred candidate will hold current instructor credentials or be willing to become a certified instructor for First Aid/CPR/AED and provide on-site employee training for the Salina, KS Vortex Facilities.
  • Other tasks as directed
Requirements
  • Associates degree in Occupational Safety/Environmental Science, equivalent certification, or 3 years of safety and environmental experience. Knowledgeable of OSHA and DOT regulations
  • Demonstrated experience with improvements in safety, productivity, and teamwork
  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated success in the application of safety standards, compliance with safety regulations, and promotion of a safe working environment
  • Capable of managing multiple projects and responding to demands in a timely and professional manner. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products
  • Experience in a metal fabrication or manufacturing environment preferred
  • This position is non-exempt. Work schedules may occasionally vary to support customer and operational needs but is normally Monday-Friday
