Safety Manager(This is a hands on role in a fast paced environment not a sit behind the desk kind of role)Company Converting is seeking to hire a Safety Specialist. This position would assist in plant risk assessments, contractor safety activities, machine safeguarding, lockout tagout and other safety compliance standards as assigned. The employee that aligns with our company values will find fulfillment in being a role model and coach for other employees regarding compliance and achievement of plant and corporate safety objectives.
Job Responsibilities
- Work together with the Plant Managers and Safety Committees to implement company safety priorities.
- Develop systems/methods for identifying hazards and evaluating risk in existing or future equipment, processes, and operations
- Enhance the plant capability in the development and implementation of fundamental safety programs. Fundamental programs include, but are not limited to Confined Space, Emergency Response, Electrical Awareness, Safe Work Practices, Lockout Tagout, Fall Protection, Incident Investigation, Forklift Pedestrian Interactions, Cranes and Rigging, Personal Protective Equipment, and Safe Work Permits.
- Continuous improvement of safety & health programs.
- Implement and evolve SOP's related to Safety Procedures and Mandates
- Assist in the development and delivery of required regulatory training
- Perform Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and other risk assessments at the facilities
- Develop the plant's capability to conduct effective incident investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence
- Provide coaching and mentoring to facilitate ownership for safety at all levels
- Lead the facility through safety audits and inspection
- Manage safety teams
- Provide a visible safety presence in the field with operations, production, maintenance, and contract work forces.
- Develop Safety Training and Compliance Systems with HR to have proper tracking to individual employees' accountability
- 2-yr. Associate Degree or higher
- A minimum of 5 years' safety-related work experience in an industrial environment
- Knowledge of OSHA 1910 compliance regulations to include recordkeeping, as well as relevant industry safety standards such as ISO 13849, ANSI B11, NFPA 79, and ANSI Z244.1
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel (spreadsheet creation/ editing, pivot tables, formula creation, etc.), PowerPoint (Presentation creation/editing), and Word (creating and modifying documents and tables)
- Experience and knowledge in recognizing and mitigating hazards
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed as we are a 24 hour 7 days a week operation
- Travel between multiple Phoenix locations (17th Avenue, 51st Avenue) and Gila Bend location (1 days per week) will be necessary as well as once a quarter to our Duncan, SC location
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Safety
- Certified Safety Professional or equivalent certification
- Certificate or Certification in Safety or a Safety Related Field
- 5 years of Safety & Health work in paper manufacturing, converting, or packaging environment
- Demonstrated ability to establish sustainable systems for compliance and continuous improvement
