Job Summary OverviewThe position is responsible for proactive monitoring and management of the commercial loan portfolio. This position is responsible for developing and executing portfolio management tactics that mitigate risks and enhance the commercial loan experience. The position will also oversee Portfolio Managers and provide leadership to ensure compliance with established policies, procedures, and applicable regulations. The position will actively assist the Chief Credit Officer (CCO) in managing commercial loan requests from preflight through approval, with a specific focus on managing the renewal process of maturing loans and change in terms process.

- Develop and implement tactics to monitor and manage risks within the Commercial Loan Portfolio.
- Provide accurate financial analysis and analyze cash flow on commercial loans to identify financial condition and repayment ability to support existing credits. Review underwriting from Portfolio Managers in renewals and extensions to ensure compliance with policy and evaluate risks/mitigants appropriately.
- Provide updates to executive leadership regarding commercial delinquency and work closely with the Chief Credit Officer and other Credit Administration leaders to effectively manage commercial loan balances.
- Prepare summaries, present facts, and offer opinions regarding creditworthiness on renewals, extensions, annual reviews, change in terms, site visits, and additions/releases in financial and reporting covenants.
- Remain informed about industry trends, and market conditions, and ensure compliance with Commercial Loan Policy, SBA, state, and federal laws.
- Ensure the quality of annual reviews, site visits, analysis and tracking of borrower's financial covenants, determination of risk grades, and other analysis for ongoing portfolio management.
- Provide education and coaching to the Portfolio Managers, including ongoing financial analysis and underwriting training of the Portfolio Management team.
- Develop procedures, training, and reporting tools to enhance management of the commercial and residential portfolio.
- Resolve borrower escalations as needed.
- Perform all duties inherent to a managerial role: challenge and develop staff to be more effective, efficient, and satisfied with the work they perform for the organization and its members.
- Actively assist in the management of policy and procedure relative to portfolio management and commercial lending.
- Utilize personal credit authority to review and approve renewals, change in terms, extensions, annual reviews, and other credit-related items.
- Communicate directly with Borrowers/Guarantors, as needed, for collection of required items.
- Conduct reviews for all loans with financial covenants and submit any violations to the Credit Admin team for resolution.
- Assist with special assets, liquidations, and ORE property as needed.
- Work closely with Operations Administration to ensure the Collateral Tracking/Tickler Report is updated and accurate.
- Coordinate third-party loan file reviews, including the preparation of a management response.
- Lead regular meetings, including in-person quarterly meetings, with Portfolio Management staff.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in commercial lending, underwriting, or portfolio management, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- College degree in business, accounting, or a related field.
- Experience leading a commercial underwriting or portfolio management team.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work well with others, including strong leadership skills.
- Experience training and developing commercial banking employees.
- Experience working with senior management and Credit Administration.
- Ability to speak effectively with borrowers and other employees of the organization.
- Knowledge of commercial and SBA lending, along with compliance and credit regulations.
- Professional written, verbal communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to produce quality work within tight time frames while managing multiple assignments.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and JHA.
- Strong work ethic, the ability to prioritize and adapt to changing deadlines, advanced interpersonal skills, excellent communication, and the desire to work as a team to support the overall success of the organization.
- Previous loan approval authority.
- SBA underwriting experience; 7a and 504.
- Sageworks experience.
- Master's degree or banking school graduate.
- Occasional lifting, 25 pounds or less.
- Sitting and standing for extended periods.
- Working on a computer for extended periods.
