Wabanaki Public Health and Wellness is Hiring an Education Division Director Near Bangor, ME

Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness (WPHW) is growing, and we are excited to be adding new people to our team! WPHW is a non-profit organization that serves four federally recognized tribes located in five communities: the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians, the Aroostook Band of Mi'kmaq, the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Indian Township, the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Pleasant Point, and the Penobscot Nation. Wabanaki traditions, language, and culture guide our approach and describe the ways we live in harmony with each other and the land we collectively share. Services are available to community members living on and off-reservation across the state of Maine.

Position Summary:

The purpose of this position it is to support Wabanaki Center for Knowledge and Innovation and WPHW Programs by developing, overseeing, and managing the education division. This includes overseeing the internship programs offered, developing and implementing training programs, and creation of dissemination of data products and visualizations. This person will also ensure that grant goals and milestones are achieved, and relationships with funding institutions and communities is maintained. The successful candidate will have experience with secure and ethically sound data storage procedures; experience with research methods with historically diverse, underserved, and/or underrepresented communities, and experience in a management level role; and will demonstrate capacity for cultural humility and competence. This position is full time, 40 hours per week and is a grant funded opportunity. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Educational Program Development and Management

  • Develop, implement, and oversee educational and training programs.
  • Create and manage internship programs in alignment with the Wabanaki Center for Knowledge and Innovation and WPHW Programs' objectives.
  • Ensure educational content is culturally relevant and accessible to Wabanaki Communities.

Data Product Creation and Management

  • Develop and disseminate data products and visualizations using existing data.
  • Implement secure and ethically sound data procedures.
  • Ensure data handling practices comply with relevant standards and regulations.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervision of Research Coordinators; and Research and Data Analysts.
  • Manage activities throughout the grant life cycle to ensure.
  • Timeliness of objectives and phases.
  • Activities are performed with fidelity to analysis methodologies.
  • Wabanaki community priorities, cultural values, and data sovereignty are respected and reflected in all phases of evaluation.
  • Relationship maintenance with funders and communities.

Other Duties

  • Support community-based meetings and events, as directed.
  • Attend public health trainings and research-based trainings, as needed.
  • Participate in other research related work as needed.

Education and Experience Required:

  • University degree or college diploma in public health, health, education or a related field AND five (5) years relevant experience required; Master of Public Health degree and at least three (3) years relevant experience preferred.
  • At least six (6) years of experience in public health, health, education, youth-serving profession, or a related field.
  • Experience with public health research and evaluation.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Certified understanding of principles and ethics for protection of human subjects in research.
  • Experience designing and implementing surveys, focus groups, and interviews.
  • Experience working with data systems.
  • Experience in data visualization.

Skills and Qualifications Required:

  • Experience working in Tribal Communities.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook required.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with Data visualization tools.
  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
  • A strong work ethic and enthusiasm.
  • Willingness to travel; a good driving record and access to reliable transportation are required.
  • All candidates must pass a criminal background check.
