Wagner College is Hiring a Biology Laboratory Coordinator Near Staten Island, NY

Biology Laboratory Coordinator

The Department of Biological Sciences at Wagner College invites applications for a full-time, 12-month instructional staff (administrative) position beginning August 1, 2024. This instructional staff member would assist in the management, preparation, and maintenance of biology department lab courses and the equipment that supports those lab courses. This coordinator would also instruct introductory lectures and/or labs for Anatomy & Physiology, General Biology and/or Introduction to Microbiology (15 contact hours per year).

A master's degree in a relevant field is required. Must know basic chemical & biological hygiene and safety requirements. Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to work smoothly with a diverse group of faculty, staff and students. Must be proficient in handling laboratory equipment and chemicals. Prior teaching, clerical and laboratory experience preferred. A personal commitment to quality undergraduate teaching and service to the Department and College is essential.

This position will have primary responsibilities of:

1) Overseeing biology laboratory safety and chemical hygiene. Supervising fire department certification and inspection of labs. Monitoring basis laboratory classroom needs, and safety equipment. Arranging for the disposal of lab wastes.

2) Assisting with ordering, acquiring, tracking, and distributing instructional supplies needed for all biology department labs such as solutions, organisms, equipment and supplies.

3) Maintaining several key common pieces of equipment, such as hoods, autoclaves, microscopes, pipettes and freezers. Includes overseeing care of instrumentation, monitoring service contracts, and arranging for maintenance as needed. Also includes helping to maintain live specimens including fish and plants.

4) Working with the Sciences & Math Division Chair to monitor laboratory spending and maintain an inventory of lab supplies & equipment.

5) Assisting the Director of the Microbiology Graduate program with the supervision and coordination of graduate assistant responsibilities.

6) Assisting with the hiring, training, and supervision of undergraduate work study students.
