POSITION TITLE: Math Teacher, High School, 2 Positions Available

Immediate Supervisor: Building Principals 

Classification: Certificated, Non-Supervisory; FLSA Exempt

Representation: Representation available by the Wahluke Education Association

Work Schedule and As per Wahluke Education Association Agreement

Terms of Employment: Wahluke Certified staff receive a 5.% Professional Learning Activity Stipend; Up to 8 additional compensated work days; Professional Development Funds; Longevity Stipends beginning in fifth year of teaching.

SUMMARY: May be assigned to all levels of high school math that may include bu not be limited to algebra, geometry, integrated math, calculus. Ability and qualified to teach College In The Classroom math courses desired.Candidates who are knowledgeable in SIOP, GLAD, ELL, strategies may receive priority consideration, and candidates who are bilingual and/or biliterate in Spanish may receive preference at the time of screening. Perform all assigned duties and responsibilities consistent with state regulations, district policies and procedures and building practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must hold proper state certification or be able to obtain certification;
  • Endorsement in Math required.
  • BS in Math Required; Masters in Math desired in order to teach College in the Classroom courses.
  • Additional secondary endorsements may be helpful; endorsement, training, experience in English Language Learner instructional strategies helpful.
  • Understanding/Knowledge of 5D CEL Instructional Frameworks and ability to incorporate dimensions in daily teaching practices.
  • Knowledge of/training in Safe & Civil Schools, PBIS, AVID, and /or CHAMPS, Character Strong, and trauma informed practices preferred.
  • Technology proficient or ability to gain proficiency to integrate technology into the instructional delivery as well as the student learning.

  1. Participate in curriculum review and design.
  2. Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.
  3. Diagnose and evaluates student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.
  4. Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  5. Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  6. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  7. Provides for individual differences in the learning needs of students, provides a classroom climate which is based upon mutual respect, rapport, fairness and consistency ensuring that every child has an equitable opportunity for success.
  8. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  9. Refer students for alternative services as provided by the District (ELL, Reading, Special Education).
  10. Effectively implement district initiatives.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations and building practices and procedures.
  2. Attend meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
  3. Willingness and ability to attend trainings/meetings that may include overnight travel. 
  4. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  5. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  6. Serve on committees as assigned.
  7. Remain current on instructional practices in education.
  8. Stay abreast of content area knowledge and best practice. 
  9. Support the total school program by observing curricular and extra-curricular student activities.
  10. Attend work and schedule and exhibit dependability and punctuality in assigned duties.
  11. Display appropriate personal and professional traits that exhibit a positive role model for students.
  12. Strive to achieve the objectives and expectations of the Teacher Performance Evaluation Plan (CEL 5D ).
  13. Collaborate with Intervention Specialists and share pertinent information with building administration and intervention teams.
  14. Interacts positively with students, professional associates, parents and patrons of the school district
  15. Complete other related duties and school wide non-instructional duties as assigned.
  16. Effectively collaborate with department and grade level teachers.
  17. Collect student data using a variety of data collection forms for purposes of determining appropriate instruction.
  18. Ability and willingness to attend student field trips.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
  20. Attends meetings and training sessions related to content areas and school matters as may be assigned
  21. Maintains confidentiality and non-judgmental views of children and families served.
  22. Is enthusiastic, flexible and committed to students reaching high learning standards.
  23. Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards
  24. Maintain professional boundaries with students.
  25. Ability to solve practical problems, apply appropriate judgment, and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists.

Physical Requirements: This position typically requires: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Medium Work: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally with assistance, and/or up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move can carry objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
