Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is available for a Hybrid Telework workweek 

POSITION PURPOSE:

Provides program coordination for the Office of Equity Affairs for equity initiatives aligned with Wake County Public School System’s (WCPSS) Board of Education goals and strategic focus areas. Responsible for tracking and prioritizing school-based equity professional learning needs, designing equity learning content, and serving as liaison to other coordinating teachers for the alignment of equity policies, practices, and procedures. Ensures training, implementation, and adherence to district equity policy and instructional resources for district employees. Assists in coaching school- based equity teams. Supports the Director in engaging community partners.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Comprehensive knowledge of equity-based concepts such as intersectionality, identity development, cultural schema, and culturally responsive instruction;

  • Considerable knowledge of teaching methodologies and adult learning styles;

  • Considerable knowledge of school improvement planning processes;

  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint; Google Apps;

  • Effective leadership skills;

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;

  • Ability to effectively manage large projects, timelines, and initiatives;

  • Ability to organize teams and manage competing administrative priorities;

  • Ability to gather and organize/analyze data and to present recommendations in an easily understood, reportable format;

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, administrators, school system staff, and the public.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university;

  • Three years of teaching experience;

  • Three years of demonstrated equity-focused leadership practice.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must hold or be eligible for a North Carolina professional educator’s license;

  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of North Carolina requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university;

  • School or district-based leadership experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as a program coordinator for the Office of Equity Affairs.

  • Plans, develops, and delivers school and district-based professional development on cultural competence, and culturally responsive instruction.

  • Provides coaching support to school-based Professional Learning Communities (PLC) to assist in problem solving equity challenges.

  • Coordinates the implementation of district diversity and equity workshops, presentations, learning opportunities and other strategies that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Actively engages student groups as full partners to interrupt opportunity gaps and the predictability of student achievement outcomes based on social and cultural factors.

  • Serves as a liaison to other teachers and other school based and district staff for the alignment of equity policies, practices, and procedures.

  • Assists in monitoring, measuring, and assessing programs related to the school system's progress toward achieving diversity goals.

  • Works collaboratively with the Director of Student and Educator Engagement to provide support to schools building and sustaining teacher equity teams, equity visioning, and problem-solving around school-based problems of practice connected to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Serves as a liaison and consultant to district departments in providing evidence-based, teaching, and learning practices aligned with diversity, equity and inclusion.

  • Serves as resource and/or point of contact for the development of celebrations and recognition activities of diversity-related events throughout the school system.

  • Supports the Director of Student and Educator Engagement to provide engagement opportunities for community partners to support closing gaps for students.

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

  • WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work requires driving automotive equipment.
