POSITION PURPOSE:
Provides leadership and support to the district in areas of health, acute crisis, and suicide prevention intervention. Provides equitable delivery of services under the framework of the Multitiered System of Support (MTSS). Assists in providing a comprehensive program that addresses student and staff safety, acute crisis intervention, barriers to learning, student behavior and mental health issues; assists with projects related to health, acute crisis and suicide intervention and prevention within the Health and Crisis Prevention Services department as assigned by the Senior Administrator of Crisis Prevention and Intervention Services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of acute crisis intervention and prevention;
  • Considerable knowledge of current local, state, national, and global trends in acute crisis prevention and intervention;
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps;
  • Effective time management and organizational skills;
  • Effective strategic planning skills and experience supporting system-level improvement;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, community groups, vendors, external agencies, and the public.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university;
  • Two years of experience in clinical mental health services, public health, emergency management, nursing; or related field;
  • Two years of experience providing acute crisis intervention and prevention;
  • Two years of demonstrated successful experience providing training to adult learners.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Hold a North Carolina Department of Instruction (NCDPI) license in general counseling, school social work, psychology, or related field OR hold a certification in a related area;
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of North Carolina requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in clinical mental health services, school counseling, school social work, public health, emergency management, nursing, or related field;
  • Experience providing, training, and managing district-level acute crisis support;
  • Experience providing acute crisis and suicide prevention and intervention;
  • Demonstrated skills to design and deliver professional development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Provides training in acute crisis prevention and response and in suicide prevention and response.
  2. Provides support to school level Crisis Teams and plans.
  3. Works in collaboration with CaSS regarding acute crisis prevention and intervention, threat assessment, trainings, and acute response.
  4. Coordinates with other departments (e.g., Security, Communications) to assure proper acute crisis responses.
  5. Assists in the development and implementation of threat Assessment Procedures for the district.
  6. Attends professional development to stay abreast of cutting-edge best practices in the areas of acute crisis intervention/prevention, suicide intervention/prevention, threat assessment and other topics relevant to the position.
  7. Supports the research, preparation, implementation, and accountability of the trauma-informed schools' community resiliency model (CRM).
  8. Supports the research, preparation, implementation, and accountability of the restorative practices program in schools.
  9. Gathers and complies reports, data, and statistics for Crisis Prevention and Intervention.
  10. Assist with the design and management of the Crisis Prevention and Intervention web page.
  11. Provides on-call response to acute crisis.
  12. Performs other related duties, as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment.
