Financial Analyst II – Wake Forest University School of Medicine – Office of the Dean

Job Summary:

The Financial Analyst II is responsible for providing comprehensive financial analysis and support to Wake Forest University School of Medicine (WFUSM) leadership, faculty, and departments. This role involves analyzing financial data, preparing budgets, forecasts, and reports, as well as providing recommendations to improve financial performance and efficiency within the academic mission.

Job Functions:

• Financial Analysis: Conduct in-depth analysis of financial data including revenue, expenses, and budget variances to identify trends, opportunities, and risks. 
• Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the development of annual budgets and long-range financial forecasts for academic departments, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and priorities.
• Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, presentations, and dashboards for WFUSM leadership, faculty, and external stakeholders. Work with large data sets to extract meaningful insights and metrics to support data-driven decision making.
• Financial Modeling: Develop financial models to support decision-making processes, such as tuition modeling for the various education programs within WFUSM. 
• Forecasting and Long-range Planning: Effectively collaborate with departmental leaders to develop financial forecasts and conduct scenario planning to assess the impact of various factors on financial performance.
• Endowment Reporting: Monitor and manage endowment activities to ensure the appropriate use of funds and assist with annual stewardship reporting.
• Grant Management: Monitor and manage financial aspects of grants, contracts, and restricted funds, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and sponsor guidelines.
• Financial Strategy Development: Assist in the formulation of financial strategies and initiatives to support the academic mission, aligning financial resources with strategic objectives.
• Stakeholder Communication: Communicate financial analysis findings, recommendations, and insights effectively to various stakeholders, including departmental administrators, faculty, and WFUSM leadership.
• Policy Compliance: Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and regulations, while providing guidance and support to departmental staff as needed.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in financial analysis or related role, preferably in higher education.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and experience with financial systems/software (e.g., Oracle Cloud, Workday, PeopleSoft, Axiom).
• Proficiency in data analysis tools/reporting, financial modeling, forecasting techniques.
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting processes, and grant management.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment and interact well with all levels of the organization.
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity in handling financial information.
• Understanding of higher education finance and regulatory environment is a plus.
