JOB SUMMARY

Under administrative review, performs management level work directed toward the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the assigned project(s). Requires the use of judgment and discretion in performing the assigned duties and responsibilities related to the project. These actions tend to establish precedents and direction for the project.

This vital role aims to facilitate and support the expansive research portfolio of the section, which includes but is not limited to Microbial Ecology and Emerging Diseases, Military Applied Research, Sexually Transmitted Infections, Complex Infections Associated with Addiction, and Vaccine and Therapeutics development.

Working closely with physicians, researchers, and academic faculty, the Project Manager will be responsible for the successful planning, coordination, and execution of multiple research projects that seek to advance our understanding and treatment of infectious diseases.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Project Management: Oversee the life cycle of research projects from initiation to completion, ensuring alignment with departmental goals and compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Team Collaboration: Liaise between researchers, clinicians, and other stakeholders to streamline communication and enhance interdisciplinary research efforts.
  • Grant and Funding Support: Assist in the identification, application, and management of funding opportunities, ensuring sustained financial support for ongoing and future research projects.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Work with data analysts and researchers to interpret research findings, generate reports, and present data to both internal and external audiences.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development and implementation of long-term research strategies, ensuring that projects align with the broader goals of the Section on Infectious Diseases and the Department of Internal Medicine.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Administration, Business Management, or a related field.
  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in research program management, preferably within a healthcare or academic setting.
  • Supervisory ability. 

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of functional area to be served
  •  Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Strong project and process management skills 
  • Knowledge of program/project management techniques and methods 
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills 
  • Knowledge of data analysis, reporting and budgeting 
  • Working knowledge of all MS Office applications including Word and PowerPoint. 
  • Ability to achieve results with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail 
  • Motivated self-starter 
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytic skills

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Responsible for the overall administration and coordination of the day-to-day delivery of program or functional area services.
  2. Continuously analyzes systems and processes. Develops and implements best practices and appropriate changes to improve outcomes in a timely manner. 
  3. Creates evaluation strategies to monitor performance and determine the need for improvements. 
  4. Initiates and set goals for programs and functional area according to the strategic objectives of the organization. 
  5. Assists leader with budget development and planning. Ensures areas of responsibility meet fiscal requirements and monitors expenditures. 
  6. Ensures program and functional area operations and activities adhere to any legal guidelines and internal policies. 
  7. Keeps senior management informed with detailed and accurate reports or presentations. 
  8. Develops appropriate communication and communication methods to facilitate the flow of information and maximize effective communication throughout the program. Communicates services with other departments and vendors as applicable. 
  9. Facilitates and/or conducts individual and group presentations as needed. 
  10. May supervise the work and manage performance of assigned staff. 
  11. Participates in committees as appropriate.
