Wallace State Community College is Hiring a Computer Science Instructor Near Hanceville, AL

The Instructor is responsible for fostering student learning by providing high quality classroom instruction. The Instructor must strive for continuous improvement of the curriculum, learning activities, and instructional resources to ensure student success. In addition to instructional duties, the Instructor will also be fully involved in the institutional planning process and developing the goals and objectives of the assigned academic department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution is required. Master’s degree in field or master’s degree in related field plus 18 graduate semester hours in computer science from a regionally accredited institution must be completed

within 3 years.

2. Must have demonstrated competence in each area of instruction, teaching experience at the college level preferred.

3. Must be proficient in curriculum development, instruction, student evaluation, and advising, and have knowledge and experience with a variety of instructional methods and strategies.

4. Must be skilled in the use of instructional technologies to enhance learning and must be able to adapt to and incorporate new and emerging technologies.

5. Experience with distance learning technology and practices is preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must demonstrate experience and/or training in the area of new and emerging technologies in Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Networking and Data communications, Information Assurance, Internet and Network Security/Cybersecurity. Current industry experience in the following areas preferred: networking fundamentals, network security, server administration, penetration testing, server virtualization, database administration and professional and/or industry certifications in MS MCSE; Cisco, CompTIA A , Network , Security , and/or Linux is desired.

  • In addition to above qualifications, experience and/or training from among the following areas:
  • Python Programming
  • C /C# Programming
  • JAVA Programming
  • Enterprise Virtualization
  • Cloud Computing Concepts
  • Data Analytics
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Model-Based Systems Engineering
  • Secure (Defensive) Programming Techniques
  • Operating Systems (Windows, Linux/Unix, Macintosh)
  • Database design and development (SQL, Oracle)
  • Systems analysis and Design
  • Computer hardware configuration and troubleshooting
  • Microsoft Office
  • Web assisted instruction using Blackboard.
  • A Second teaching discipline is preferred, specifically Geographic/Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) or similar discipline.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrate and maintain a high level of competence and expertise in the teaching field or subject area.
  • Develop, implement, and teach courses that are designed to meet individual student needs and ensure an effective learning experience.
  • Evaluate and record student performance and achievement in a timely manner and provide prompt feedback to students and the administration in order to assure learning outcomes are met.
  • Participate as a contributing faculty member of the College, including participating in planning long-range and short-term goals for the department and College, as well as maintaining regular office ours and participating in faculty meetings.
  • In order to perform these essential functions, the Instructor must be present at work. Therefore, attendance is an essential function.

SALARY: Based on education and experience commensurate with ACCS Salary Schedule D1 ($41,282-$92,513) of the Alabama Community College System policies. This is a nine-month position. A summer contract may be available (an additional $12,746-$28,612) dependent upon enrollment.

Letter(s) must include employment dates and job title and be on official letterhead with an authorized personnel signature.

(5) Separate transcripts from each college attended (photocopies will suffice until employed)
