Day to day as a Wasatch House Director
The House Director at our Provo-based Wasatch House (Clubhouse) plays a crucial role in managing and setting client-appropriate boundaries, creating behavior contracts, and preparing tailored instruction for individuals with diverse needs, by teaching essential social, interpersonal, and daily living skills through nurturing approaches and behavior modification techniques, the Director fosters personal growth and development in clients facing learning disabilities, behavioral disorders, and emotional challenges. Additionally, this position involves planning and overseeing psychosocial, recreational, and community activities to promote holistic well-being. The Director conducts comprehensive needs assessments, manages medications, coordinates case management activities, provides crisis intervention, and ensures financial stability and essential services for clients. This dynamic role also involves transportation support, legal advocacy, and active participation in treatment team meetings and consultations.

What you need to be successful
Successful candidates for the Wasatch House Director position must have a bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or a related field, along with licensure as a Social Service Worker (SSW) and a minimum of two years of experience as a Licensed Social Service Worker, including one year in a lead-worker or supervisor capacity. Moreover, becoming a certified Mental Health Officer to issue "client pink slips" is required, as is holding a valid driver's license. Essential skills include in-depth knowledge of mental illness, special education classifications, behavioral disorders, legal frameworks concerning client rights and confidentiality, therapeutic techniques, crisis intervention, social work principles, and psychiatric concepts. Proficiency in utilizing various software applications for record-keeping, communicating effectively, designing instructional materials, and , and coordinate services to meet client goals. Assist client's in budgeting money and how to set spending priorities; design instructional curriculum; use emergency medical procedures; communicate well verbally and in written form; assist client's in monitoring their medications; assess client's case management service needs; link client's with funding agencies and service providers; work cooperatively with a variety of agency service providers; parents and significant others; assist client's in getting the services they need to achieve their goals. Advocate for clients is essential, along with the ability to liaise with community resources.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from a college or university with a bachelor degree in social work
  • Psychology or a related field; plus Licensure as a Social Service Worker (SSW); AND
  • Two (2) years of experience working as a Licensed Social Service Worker (SSW)
  • One (1) of which must be in a lead-worker or supervisor role;
  • Become a certified Mental Health Officer enabling the issuing of "client pink slips".
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
Special Qualifications
  • May be required to have a Food Handlers Permit depending on the program.
  • Considerable knowledge of mental illness; special education classifications and disabilities, behavior disorders; therapeutic techniques and theories;
  • Values and fundamentals; resources available for linking of client needs; psychotropic medications; how to write and implement a service plan; how to accurately maintain daily computerized log records of activities using various software applications including word processing
  • Crisis interventions; psychiatric social work concepts, DCFS policies and procedures.
  • Ability to assist client's in developing a range of social supports in the community; to advocate for client rights

Employment at Wasatch Behavioral Health is contingent upon successful completion of a drug screen, motor vehicle record review and criminal background check. After hire you must complete and receive a Criminal Background Clearance (BCI) from Utah State Office of Licensing. Upon receipt of a conditional offer of employment in the position, you must provide an official copy of licensure or certification.
