  • Meets health and physical qualifications.
Summary
  • To teach one or more subjects to students and lead them toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.
Essential Duties/ResponsibilitiesThe following functions are normal for this position. These functions are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Designs lessons based on the Tennessee Department of Education Curriculum Standards for the assigned subject area and courses;
  • Uses various instructional strategies and groupings to support students’ mastery of standards and skill attainment in the subject area;
  • Uses technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process;
  • Prepares for assigned courses and shows evidence of preparation (lesson and unit plans) upon request by the immediate supervisor;
  • Meets and instructs all assigned classes at designated meeting location and time;
  • Administers assessments to evaluate students’ progress on a regular basis;
  • Uses individual student data to plan and modify instruction to meet individual student needs;
  • Develops a classroom environment conducive to learning;
  • Encourages students to maintain standards of classroom behavior;
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing all school rules, board policies, and administrative regulations and procedures;
  • Communicates students’ progress regularly with parents;
  • Is available outside of the instructional school day for educational purposes to both students and parents when requested to do so;
  • Attends and participates in all assigned departmental meetings, professional development sessions, educational conferences, and faculty meetings;
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, board policy, and administrative regulations and procedures;
  • Provides detailed plans for substitute teachers including lessons, assignments, student expectations, and emergency procedures (fire drill, lockdown, etc.);
  • Supervises students at school-related functions including on and off campus activities;
  • Represents the school and community in a positive manner; and
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Physical DemandsRequiredThis job may require lifting objects that exceed 25lbs., with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows:
