This position implements community-level wildfire preparedness, mitigation, and prevention activities, including but not limited to the implementation of DNR’s Wildfire Ready Neighbors Program (WRN), Community Wildfire Prevention Plans (CWPP), National Hazard Mitigation Plan (NHMP) participation and coordination at the county level.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently assessing structures and private lands for wildfire risk.
  • Building a strong and positive rapport with homeowners, landowners, Community Leaders, Conservation Districts, Firewise USA® sites, fire districts, and the general public.
  • Positively representing the agency when interacting with the public.
  • Implement the WRN program and assist partners in implementing WRN programs.
  • Using GIS technologies to collect and analyze data.
  • Assist and administer grants.
  • Work with local partners in Post-Disaster Program Coordination.

Required Qualifications:

  • AA degree in natural resources, emergency preparedness, or related field;

OR Two years of experience in community engagement, education, disaster recovery, fire ecology, or a related field;
OR an equivalent combination of education and experience in the above-related fields.

  • Experience presenting and delivering presentations, workshops, and educational programs, particularly those centered around resilience, public safety, wildfire preparedness, and risk reduction.
  • Knowledge of wildland fire prevention and suppression techniques.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.
  • Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and public records retention and requests are followed.
  • Ability to use a variety of different software for the position, including Microsoft Office, Adobe, ArcMap, SharePoint, and more.
  • Skills in written and verbal communication.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $62,892.00 - $84,516.00 per year
