Position SummaryThe role of the Nursing Assistant – Acute reports to the Ambulatory Care Manager. This position, under close supervision of a licensed nurse, is responsible in assisting the nursing staff in caring for outpatients having a procedure in various ACU departments. This position is responsible for inventory and stocking of supplies. This position has exposure to blood, bodily fluids, communicable disease. Most of the time is spent standing and/or walking for short distances (up to 70% of work time), with frequent lifting, pushing and pulling of up to 100 lbs. (up to 30% of work time), and occasional carrying of up to 25 lbs. A culturally and linguistically diverse patient population is served including adolescents, adults and geriatrics, with the majority being adults and geriatrics. Essential Job Responsibilities
Assists with taking patient vital signs, prepping patients for procedure, performing EKGs as well as other tasks to ensure patient is ready for or recovering from procedure
Ensures adequate patient care needs are met
Assists in achieving quality patient care, national patient safety goals, and regulatory requirements
Establishes effective working relationships with all constituencies including patients, patient families, physicians, coworkers, volunteers, community partners, and vendors
Demonstrates effective problem-solving techniques, shows initiative, and finds creative ways to overcome challenges
Understands the age-specific needs, including care, communication, and safety needs for the patient population served
Ensure proper inventory and supplies are maintained for the unit through inventory management
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or GED. Completion of a nurse assistant training program preferred.
Licensure and Certifications: BLS to be completed upon hire.
Experience: Familiarity with patient care procedures is preferred as usually demonstrated by completion of a nursing assistant training program.
