Washington University in St. Louis is Hiring a Laboratory Preparation Specialist - Biology Near St Louis, MO
Scheduled Hours 37.5 Position SummaryThe Laboratory Preparation Specialist is the technical assistant for faculty teaching laboratory courses in biology. Primary responsibilities are making media and solutions required for the laboratory courses, ordering and organizing supplies for lab courses, and keeping laboratory rooms tidy and stocked with supplies needed for each lab session. The Laboratory Preparation Specialist will also maintain safety in the laboratory areas and interact with Environmental Health and Safety officers. Job DescriptionPrimary Duties & Responsibilities
Preparing media and reagents for laboratory courses.
Stocking/setting up and maintaining teaching laboratory rooms.
Ordering and maintaining an inventory of the laboratory equipment and chemicals.
Performing routine administrative and clerical duties in support of the departmental laboratory courses.
Maintaining laboratory safety, including properly disposing of waste.
Director of the dishwashing recharge center, including supervision of one part time dishwasher.
Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions/ScheduleThe Prep Specialist will regularly work with chemicals, must be able to lift at least 30 pounds, and will be required to work on Saturdays and some evenings. Preferred Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in biology or chemistry.
Experience working independently in a teaching laboratory environment.
Working knowledge of solutions and media preparation, including excellent aseptic technique.
Good communications skills, including ability to work with and take direction from several different faculty members.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
A strong sense of urgency and attention to deadlines are highly preferred.
Dedication to proper safety procedures, equipment and regulations
Responsible, self-motivated and detail oriented, with excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry or a related field, and 1 year of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Grade R07-H Salary Range $17.10 - $29.09 / Hourly The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
