Position SummaryThis position will support the Office for Socially Engaged Practice to provide expertise, technical assistance, and project management for community-driven projects and initiatives in the St. Louis region. This position will have the opportunity to lead design/build projects and assist Sam Fox faculty who are engaged with community design research, projects, and/or installations.
The ideal candidate will be able to manage community design partnerships, including but not limited to the supervising on-site construction, direct contractors and vendors, obtain regulatory approvals, prepare and manage project schedules and budgets.
The project manager will be able to verbally and digitally communicate design concepts to a variety of stakeholders including community organizations, individuals, partners, and faculty. Assist in other related OSEP operational and programming when appropriate.
The Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis is a unique collaboration in architecture, art, and design education within the context of an internationally recognized research university. Job DescriptionPrimary Duties & Responsibilities: Design Build Project Coordination & Management
  • Develop project roadmap from project concept to installation with community stakeholders.
  • Prepare project schedules and milestones.
  • Coordinate and supervise construction activities.
  • Ability to develop preliminary project cost estimates including materials and labor costs.
  • Prepare and submit budget estimates and cost tracking reports.
  • Direct field personnel to achieve completion of the project on schedule.
  • Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, and construction problems.
  • Has working knowledge of local and national building codes and permitting.
  • Can problem-solve in the field during installation.
Faculty Assistance & Research
  • Provides technical expertise to faculty members on design/build initiatives and projects.
  • Conducts research on materials and processes to enhance engagement, collaboration, and sustainable practices for design/build projects and installations.
Administration
  • This position will support the Associate Director in managing and directing the funds associated with Sam Fox Design/Build projects and installations.
  • They will have direct oversight and responsibility for individual project budgets, including the purchase of materials, tools, and consultants services, as appropriate for project implementation and construction.
  • This position will have use of a Procard to use for project related purchasing.
  • Prepares annual reports and evaluations of Design/Build initiatives.
  • Works closely with the OSEP leadership and Sam Fox Business Office to coordinate and initiate project financial transactions and regularly monitor project financial accounts.
  • Responsible for entering transactions and project related expense reports.
  • Assists with year-end accounting and office reporting.
  • Assists in maintaining OSEP database.
  • Conducts project audits and evaluations for all projects and initiatives.
Grants & Contracts
  • Identifies internal and external grant opportunities to assist OSEP/ Sam Fox design/build initiatives.
  • Works with OSEP and WashU General Counsel to create and execute contracts and MOU’s for project partnerships.
Outreach & Dissemination
  • Creates a process to document the design process, engagement, and final installations.
  • Identifies relevant opportunity venues to disseminate and share the design process and final installations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
