Position SummaryThe Laboratory of Hema Adhikari, PhD, in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis is seeking a highly motivated experimental biologist for a research technician position. The research will be focused on mechanistic dissection of oncogenic signaling pathways in human cancers.
This position assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials.
Job DescriptionPrimary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
  • Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
  • Prepares culture media, chemicals, reagents, etc.
  • Performs molecular and cellular biology based techniques including molecular cloning and mammalian cell culture.
  • Maintains mouse colonies.
  • Performs in vivo experiments and analyzes samples using general lab techniques including, but not limited to, Western blot and PCR.
  • Confers with principal investigator to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments.
  • Reviews laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to research experiments.
  • May assist the principal investigator with preparing materials for manuscripts or presentations.
  • Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  • Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning, including maintaining sufficient inventory of materials, supplies and equipment for performance of duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Working ConditionsThis position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, zoology, chemistry, biochemistry or other directly related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators.
  • Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
  • Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.
Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree and up to 1 year of experience in a laboratory setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling 4 years.

Salary Range
Base pay is commensurate with experience.
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
