Position SummaryThere is an opportunity available for a Senior Scientist in the laboratory of Dr. Randall Bateman, which investigates the causes, future diagnosis and treatments of Alzheimer’s disease utilizing a wide variety of assays and techniques from basic applications, such as quantitative measurement of stable-isotope labeled peptides and clinical translational studies in diagnostic and therapeutic biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease.
Duties in this role include operation of mass spec units, design of research protocols, and assists with experiment design, data analysis, and documentation of experimental results.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Collaborates on designing, conducting and reporting of research projects.
  • Assists with grant preparation and reporting. May submit grant proposals in rare circumstances with the approval of the PI, Department Head and Dean.
  • Develops and optimizes analytical methods relating to Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and AD biomarkers.
  • Prepares and submits papers on research.
  • Develops hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it.
  • Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  • Manages research project with other institutions and investigators.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Working ConditionsWorks in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with analytical programs such as: Skyline, Tableau, Chromeleon, and Freestyle.
  • Familiarity with Instrument management programs such as: Xcalibur, Waters Accuity, and Thermo.
  • Experience with Mass Spec Consoles.
  • Experience with R script and SQL.
  • Experience using and maintaining Mass Spectrometry and Liquid Chromatography systems.
  • Understanding of analytical techniques for chemical and biological analysis.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data and to communicate data in a clear, concise manner.
  • Computer literacy, including the ability to use a variety of software packages to analyze data.
Required QualificationsPhD, M.D. or equivalent terminal degree and at least 3 years of postdoctoral experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling 12 years.

Salary Range
$63,400.00 - $115,000.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
