Position SummaryThe Spencer lab studies the genetics and genomics of cancer and has published articles in Cancer Cell, Cell, Leukemia, and the New England Journal of Medicine. The lab has extensive expertise in both computational biology and bench science and is a key member of the cancer genomics group at Washington University and Siteman Cancer Center. Dr. Spencer has received funding from ASH, the Cancer Research Foundation, Doris Duke, Siteman Cancer Research Fund, and the NCI, and has extensive collaborations with the McDonnell Genome Institute and investigators funded by the Genomics of AML Program Project Grant.
Collaborates on designing, conducting and reporting of research projects.
Job DescriptionPrimary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Collaborates on designing, conducting and reporting of research projects.
  • Assists with grant preparation and reporting. May submit grant proposals in rare circumstances with the approval of the PI, Department Head and Dean.
  • Prepares and submits papers on research.
  • Develops hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it.
  • Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  • Manages research project with other institutions and investigators.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Working ConditionsWorks in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of standard laboratory policies, procedures and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate in oral and written form with all levels of personnel and technical publications.
  • Ability to work well independently or as a team member.
Required QualificationsPhD, M.D. or equivalent terminal degree and at least 3 years of postdoctoral experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling 12 years.

Salary Range
$62,200.00 - $112,700.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
