Position Information
Provides advanced professional nursing care which includes the delivery of primary health care, diagnosis and treatment of common medical conditions, minor surgery and invasive procedures, health education and counseling; and performs other related work as required.
This is an Open Competitive/Countywide Promotional recruitment being conducted to fill a current full-time vacancy at the Washoe County Child Advocacy Center (CAC) in the District Attorney's Office. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) position currently exists in several departments of Washoe County. The immediate vacancy will be located in the District Attorney's - CAC Division.

The Washoe County Child Advocacy Center (CAC) in the District Attorney's office, through a coordinated Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) approach, provides direct services to child abuse victims and their non-offending caregivers. Here at the Washoe County CAC, we provide advocacy, individual treatment and therapy, forensic interviewing and medical services. The Washoe County CAC is a child-friendly facility in which law enforcement, child protection, prosecution, mental health, medical and victim advocacy professionals work together to investigate abuse, help children heal from abuse, and hold offenders accountable.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate of arts or bachelor's degree in nursing and sufficient advanced, specialized nursing training to qualify for State of Nevada certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
License or Certificate
  • A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment.
  • Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with the Nevada State Board of Nursing is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment.
  • For positions within the Washoe County Child Advocacy Center in the District Attorney's office: Sixteen (16) hours of formal didactic training per National Children's Alliance (NCA) requirements in the medical evaluation of child sexual abuse is required at the time of appointment.
  • For positions within the Washoe County Child Advocacy Center in the District Attorney's office: Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE-P) certification per NCA requirements is required within three months of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment. SANE-P certification includes forty (40) hours of formal didactic training in the medical evaluation of child sexual abuse and completion of a competency based clinical preceptorship.

Ideal Candidate for the District Attorney's Office - CAC Division Will (in addition to the above):
  • Be comfortable working as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team
  • Have basic knowledge of the Criminal Justice system
  • Be familiar with medical research and literature in treating children who have been abused or neglected
Conditions of Employment
The Washoe County Nurses Association (WCNA) covers the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse position.
Background checks will be conducted on selected applicants through the State of Nevada and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Per the Washoe County Background and Reference Checks Policy, new and rehired employees are required to submit to a fingerprint based background investigation. Effective July 1, 2019, the $40.25 fee associated with this background investigation will be paid by the employee (if applicable) and deducted automatically from the first paycheck. Employment is contingent upon the results of the background check, although a record of conviction will not necessarily bar an applicant from employment.
For Northern Nevada Public Health (NNPH): Selected candidates may be required to meet the NNPH immunization requirements and provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination by an authorized provider at the time of appointment. Certain positions will also require selected candidates to have the 2-step TB Skin Test at time of appointment.
Washoe County requires its employees to reside in the state of Nevada or neighboring California communities such as Truckee, South Lake Tahoe or Susanville as of their first day of work.
Washoe County hires all new employees at the minimum rate of the salary range and eligible employees may receive an annual merit increase of 5% until they reach the maximum salary for the classification. Upon promotion, current Washoe County employees are placed at the minimum rate of the salary range for the higher classification of the new position OR a promotional calculation, whichever is greater.
What Happens Next
