HUMAN RESOURCES COMPENSATION ANALYST

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision performs analytical journey level work in human resources administration. The Compensation Analyst ensures competitive and equitable compensation practices across the district. This position involves conducting detailed analyses of job roles, evaluating compensable factors, salary schedules, and market data, and recommends appropriate pay grades/schedules based on collective bargaining agreements as well as internal and external market data. The Compensation Analyst collaborates closely with various stakeholders to support effective human resources management. Performs related work as required.

EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct comprehensive job analyses to determine essential job functions, required qualifications, and appropriate classifications within the district. Evaluate compensable factors such as skills, experience, and responsibilities to establish fair and competitive salary schedule, range, or pay grade recommendations.

Conduct salary surveys and gather relevant compensation data from comparable educational institutions and other relevant industries. Analyze market trends and recommend adjustments to compensation strategies to attract and retain talent. When appropriate, conducts salary surveys and reviews of internal staff to make recommendations for change that ensure equity and align incentives.

Responds to requests to evaluate compensation and recommends compensation changes to senior leadership. Evaluates compensable factors and recommends appropriate pay grade. Conducts interviews with incumbents and supervisors and conducts desk/position audits. Gathers relevant comparison information from within and outside the district. Documents rationale and makes classification recommendations to Executive Cabinet/Chief Human Resources Officer.

Is required to maintain appropriate human resources systems software data and configuration to support the compensation strategies aligned on by leadership. This may include web-based applications and interfacing to applicant tracking databases, including developing forms, data entry protocol, report generation, and interfacing between software applications.

Performs special studies of a non-routine nature, including researching laws and best practices, preparing surveys and compiling results, extracting and analyzing complex human resources data, composing reports and making presentations of findings.

Develops job descriptions, including appropriate minimum qualifications and license requirements. Develops job-related, valid and reliable selection procedures, administers and scores examinations and work sample exercises.

Serves as a resource to staff and District personnel in the development of selection procedures, interviewing and related activities. May perform other relevant job duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in human resources, psychology, business management, education administration or a closely related field;

AND

  • Experience: Three (3) years of experience performing complex technical assignments and providing technical support for a public or private human resources program;

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Experience in human resources administration, including recruitment, selection, job analysis, compensation and interpretation of collective bargaining agreements.

The functions of human resources administration including compensation, job evaluation, and employee selection; salary schedule structure; computing salary and costs; principles and practices of management and organization development; and federal and state employment laws and regulations pertaining to human resources administration.

Analyze information, develop alternatives, evaluate consequences and make recommendations; conduct job analysis, apply commonly accepted human resource principles, and use the results to support recommendations regarding classification, compensation and selection procedures; use appropriate research and statistical methods to support recommendations; communicate effectively both orally and in writing, including public speaking, interpersonal communication, preparing reports, correspondence and publications; maximize the utility of Human Resources Information systems, including database programs, online employment application system, employee recordkeeping applications, spreadsheets and common office applications; and interpret and apply regulations, collective bargaining agreements, policies and procedures.
