SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under general direction, performs highly responsible, complex and diversified clerical, administrative, and technical support functions.
Incumbent performs related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTISTICS
Positions within the Program Services Technician classification perform a wide variety of responsible, complex and diversified clerical, administrative and technical support duties in a staff capacity within line departments.
Specific duties of individual positions vary considerably and analytical, budgetary and fiscal duties may be a major or minor part of individual jobs depending on location and assignment.
Incumbents in this classification typically review and / or process confidential, detailed and / or technical forms, files, and other documentation, associated with one or more district programs or program areas.
The work assignments require a detailed knowledge of the program(s) so that different calculations can be made and / or processing can be done in cases where guidelines are not clear.
Incumbents may also function as a subject matter expert, providing sensitive and detailed program information to district employees and officials, the general public, and / or public jurisdictions as a significant part of the job.
Program Services Technicians are distinguished from positions within the Secretarial classes in that although the Secretary classes occasionally perform some of the less responsible administrative and technical duties associated with a Program Services Technician, the primary emphasis of the Secretary classes is the performance of responsible clerical and secretarial duties.
EXEMPLARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITES
Reviews, completes, and processes technical documents applying a thorough and detailed knowledge of the appropriate laws, rules and regulations pertaining to the department or program;
gives information regarding the special and / or technical program to district personnel, service providers, vendors and / or the general public.
Researches, assembles, tabulates and analyzes data from a wide variety of sources; interviews and consults with district and department officials.
District personnel, service providers, vendors and others to give and receive information; prepares detailed narrative and / or statistical reports for administrative review and control;
makes recommendation on procedures, policies and program alternatives.
Reviews proposed changes to existing contracts, procedures, policies and new legislation; advises departmental heads on the potential impact to program operations;
makes recommendations for necessary actions.
Monitors on-going program activities initiating or recommending changes to improve program efficiency; performs responsible clerical functions to accomplish assigned programmatic duties.
May supervise and review subordinate account clerks or office assistants.
When assigned to Special Education :
identifies and resolves problems and makes corrective entries.
