Watlow is Hiring a Director of Engineering - Materials Near St Louis, MO

About The RoleWe are seeking a visionary Director of Engineering, Materials to lead our Material Science Center of Excellence and drive the development of key products that define excellence in material science. Based at our Technology & Development Center in St. Louis, Missouri, and reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with universities and research labs, expanding our R&D activities and shaping the future of our technical organization.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and drive the development/adoption of new materials: Take charge of identifying and leading the development and adoption of new materials, including ceramics, polymers, metals, alloys, composites, and more, in our new product development endeavors. Utilize your expertise in materials science to drive innovation and ensure that our products remain at the forefront of technological advancement.
  • Lead the Ceramic Technology Center (CTC): Provide oversight of over 12,000 square feet ceramic technology lab, while leading the Ceramic Technology team and providing direction to foster a highly motivated and collaborative environment focused on innovation and excellence.
  • Support enterprise vision and transformation: Collaborate with senior management and global functional leaders to develop strategies that align with our enterprise vision and drive transformation within our technical organization to better support our customers and business objectives.
  • Support business growth initiatives: Work closely with other functional groups to support our business growth initiatives, ensuring that objectives for advancing technical capability are aligned with business priorities.
  • Engage with universities and research labs: Foster strategic partnerships with universities and research labs to support our R&D activities, driving advancements in materials science and expanding our technical capabilities.
  • Provide technical and financial insights: Provide the organization with technical and financial information on projects, assisting in making appropriate prioritization and portfolio decisions.
Required Qualifications
  • Advanced Engineering degree (MS/PhD) or Bachelor’s Engineering degree
  • 10 or more years of related experience in the Materials Science area.
  • Experience working with material suppliers
  • Experience in new product development using new/advance materials
  • Experience leading and managing highly cross-functional teams
Desired Qualifications
  • PhD in ceramics Engineering or Materials Science is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to create/foster a leadership environment that is conducive to teamwork and supports a fast-paced, highly visual, and collaborative work environment
  • Experience in leading advanced research programs
  • Semiconductor and/or other high-tech industry experience is preferred
  • Experience in resolving materials related technical issue
