SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the WIC Program Director or designated Manager; provides nutrition assessment, develops a high-risk care plan and performs dietary, nutrition counseling, and intervention for participants with more complex nutrition needs. This position is approximately 25% administrative and 75% direct client service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Enrolls and certifies high-risk participants.
  • Conducts in-dept h complex nutritional assessments of participants identified as high-risk.
  • Evaluates dietary intakes, reviews medical records for nutritional risk determination and provides nutrition interventions for all high-risk participants.
  • Develops high-risk nutrition care plans for improvement and documents in the approved high-risk format in the ISIS comment section.
  • Provides individual or group nutrition education on clinical nutrition issues to high-risk participants.
  • Consults with physicians on nutrition and breastfeeding related issues to assure proper care and compliance with State WIC policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for determination of necessary changes of special supplemental formula feedings or non-contract formula for all participants.
  • Provides follow-up of high-risk participants.
  • Assists the Manager of Training and site supervisors in the training of the paraprofessional staff and volunteers on nutrition or health-related issues.
  • Provides oversight on decision to disqualify participants based on lack of nutritional risk or improved risk status.
  • Assists with the monitoring of all nutrition education materials provided to participants contain accurate, reliable, and soundly based on appropriate information.
  • Works as a team with other site supervisors to ensure the smooth operation of all clinic sites.
  • Acts as a liaison between WHF-WIC and health professionals in the community.
  • Performs supervisory duties and site management in the absence of the site supervisor.
  • Certifies low-risk participants as needed.
  • Attends in-services, training, meetings, conferences, and other continuing education session as assigned.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in food and nutrition or dietetics.
  • Completion of an approved internship program by the American Dietetics. Association.
  • Must be a registered dietician.
  • A minimum of one year work experience in the field of food, nutrition and/or dietetics.
  • Experience in nutrition and breastfeeding counseling.
  • Must be knowledgeable in the areas of therapeutic and normal nutrition as it relates to pregnancy, lactation, and infant/child nutrition.
  • Must have effective communication, teaching, organizational, counseling and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work independently as a high-risk dietician in a WIC clinic.

COVID-19 CONSIDERATIONS:

All patients are subjected to COVID screening and are required to wear a mask when not receiving treatment. All staff members must be fully vaccinated.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $67,000 - $70,000 per year
