General Responsibilities: Under the direction of a Principal, the teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students, some with disabilities; Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; follows State/Federal mandated due process procedures.

Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:

1. Provides research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP.

2. Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.

3. Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.

4. Develops and implements annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include: present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.

5. Schedules team meetings and works cooperatively with team members and others in developing instructional goals and strategies.

6. Creates a positive learning experience with emphasis in individualized instruction using appropriate sources.

7. Serves as primary contact for the parent concerning special education students.

8. Conducts special education evaluations and reevaluations.

9. Complies with Wayne Halfway's policies and all state/federal rules and regulations.

10. Completes all district and state reporting requirements.

11. Establishes and maintains student control and discipline in the classroom, school premises or during school activities.

12. Approximately 10-16 students, with a teachers aide.

13. Request required special education records form previous schools and maintain special education files.

14. Performs other comparable duties of a like or similar nature apparent or as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience: A current Tennessee teaching license is required with a minimum B.A/B.S degree in teaching from an accredited institution, preferably in special education. Knowledge and skills in working with children with ADD and behavior and emotional disabilities. If no special ed certification, must be willing to obtain with assistance and support from Wayne Halfway House Inc.

NO FELONY CONVICTIONS AND MUST PASS A DRUG SCREEN.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $52,000.00 per year
