Athletics Strength, Conditioning and Fitness Specialist

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Athletics Strength, Conditioning and Fitness Specialist at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):

Job Purpose
In accordance with the mission of Wayne State University and the Department of Athletics, assist in administering the progress and success of fitness and wellness programs offered through the Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center and the intercollegiate strength and conditioning program within the guidelines of the University and National Collegiate Athletic Association. This includes designing and developing, implementing, supervising and evaluating comprehensive group fitness and wellness and all pre-season, in-season and post-season activities necessary to the physical development, conditioning, rehabilitation, and nutritional oversight of Wayne State student-athletes. Reports to Athletic Coach I, Strength and Conditioning.

Essential Functions

Assist the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach in the improvement of the physical development and overall performance of all varsity sport (18 currently) student-athletes through sports specific training programs.
Work with Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center (MHRFC) in developing programs for fitness and well-being for an assortment of users, including: Wayne State students and club sport teams, Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center members and strategic partners (i.e., University Wellness program).
Research, design, implement, instruct and measure/evaluate wellness and training programs.
Work collaboratively with Sports Medicine staff in developing strategies for rehabilitation and injury prevention. Research, design, educate and assess/evaluate nutrition programs for student-athletes, both in-season and out-of-season.
Assist in daily operations of the Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center and Athletic Performance Center. This includes creating staff work schedules, team and individual training sessions, educating and enforcing safety protocols. Responsible for supplies and equipment quotations, equipment care and maintenance and maintenance of individual and team records. Knowledge of and adherence to all National College Athletics Association and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rules, policies and procedures pertaining to the strength and conditioning function of the department.
Coordinate Volunteer Internship Program. Develop and implement curriculum; coordinate with academic counselor the hours required to complete program; supervise intern’s progress and evaluate for program requirements. Assist in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes during on-campus visits to Wayne State University.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education  
Bachelor's degree
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in sports science, exercise, kinesiology, fitness, physical education or physiology.
Experience  
Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)
Minimum of 2 years job-related experience in a NCAA strength & conditioning program. 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Supervisory skills; ability to delegate work, set clear direction and manage workflow. Strong mentoring and coaching skills.
Requires certifications in:
1.) First Aid/Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation/automated external defibrillator.
2.) Requires a minimum of one of the following certifications. Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association--Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (preferred) or National Strength and Conditioning Association--Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
