Post -Doctoral Research Fellow

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Post -Doctoral Research Fellow at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):

Perform scientific techniques orresearch protocols. Assist the Principal Investigator in designing andperforming protocols. Design and perform experiments. Collect and log researchdata. Participate in implementing research objectives, ensuringcompliance with all legal, regulatory and protocol guidelines. Assistother lab members with experiments as required. May mentor researchassistants and students.
With the assistance of the mentor, find and write research grants with the goalof obtaining additional research grant funding. Responsibilities may alsoinclude coordinating correspondence with applicants and grantees, acknowledgingreceipts of proposals, and maintaining a system to track proposals. 
Evaluate and perform preliminary analysis of the data using graphs, charts ortables to highlight the key points of the research results collected inaccordance with the research protocols as stipulated.
Prepare and present presentations regarding research project results forprofessional, scientific and academic conferences. Summarize and organizedata results for submittal to academic and scholarly, peer-reviewedjournals. Write scientific manuscripts and other documents forpublication. Fact-check, proofread, and edit research documents to ensureaccuracy.
Maintain the laboratory work areas includingroutine maintenance on laboratory equipment as required. Order and organize required research supplies and records. Maintaincleanliness and organization of work station.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Unique duties:

A postdoctoral fellow position is available immediately at the Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics in the School of Medicine to study mitochondrial regulation in disorders associated with mitochondrial DNA mutations.

Qualifications:

Education Doctorate degree
Requires advanced knowledge in a field of science or learning, predominantlyintellectual in character. This knowledge is acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectualinstruction.
Experience Intermediate (3 to 4 years job-related experience)
Job related experience can include doctorate training. Experienceperforming basic research techniques preferred. Must have distinguished themselves in research. Priorrecipient of funding for research based on individual achievements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to work independently. Ability to secure grants and funding forresearch. Ability to collect, analyze, summarize and interpret researchfindings in reports and communicate results to the field. Knowledge of andexperience with current scientific integrity principles. Excellent timemanagement and organization skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with others ina collaborative environment. Microsoft office software skills.

Preferred qualifications:

Successful applicants will have a PhD in Molecular/Cell Biology or a related field with hands on experience in cell culture techniques, DNA cloning, immunoblotting. Experience in mitochondrial biology will be preferred but not required. Candidate is expected to design and perform experiments with rigor, and work in a collaborative environment.
