Summary
The Family Support Counselor serves as a resource support to the FSCs responding to referrals of
potential organ and mutual organ/tissue donors and will serve as the main point of contact for the FSCs
working on active referrals. We serve the entire state of South Carolina, and the ideal candidate can live anywhere in the state.
**This position can be located anywhere in South Carolina**
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Serves on a rotating call schedule in order to provide 24/7 resource support to the Family Support
Counselors (FSC II) that respond to patient referrals in our Designated Service Area (DSA) hospitals.
2. Serves as a Team Lead during referrals of patients:
3. Assists Manager of Family Support Services in development of training opportunities and leading
case review discussions.
4. Collaborates with the Manager of Family Support Services in tracking and documenting the Effective
Request process.
5. Provides field observation feedback of the Family Support Counselors to evaluate their competency
and assist in their professional development.
6. Responds to referrals of potential organ/tissue donors, assesses family dynamics, provides emotional
support, educates the donor family and hospital staff, and secures written authorization for organ
and/or tissue recovery.
7. Serves as a preceptor to new Family Support Counselors.
8. Other duties as assigned.
