Job Summary:

Our Produce Department Supervisor loves to engage with our customers to determine and meet their needs while educating them about what we grow and sell. This person understands the overall goal of our business to provide the customer with a connection to the source of their food, educate them and give them a different experience from the average supermarket.

The Produce Department Supervisor is responsible for leading the team of staff, delegation of daily responsibilities, quality control of product, maintaining organization and cleanliness of the department, assisting in and strategizing for sales growth, contributing to creativity and fresh ideas in product displays, and training of new staff. The Produce Department Supervisor will not be responsible to purchase and price product initially but will have the opportunity to grow into that role if the skills fit.

This supervisor must be a team player and lead by example, performing any and all tasks for the purposes of training as well as when needed. The supervisor must also know how to train and let go, supervising and delegating when appropriate.

The Produce Department Supervisor will work closely with the farm market and production managers to educate staff and customers on the wide variety of seasonal product and sustainable farming practices in order to achieve success through excellent customer service, nurturing a connection with and passion for quality produce.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills/Experience

· Must have a high school diploma.

· Must have excellent communication skills and people skills

· Must have the ability to lead a team by example and delegation

· Must have strong organizational skills

· Must be familiar with different types of produce and how they are handled/stored

· Must be willing to learn more about seasonal produce and its nuances

· Must have customer service experience that helps create healthy relationships with our customer base

· Must have experience in retail location

· Creativity for displays/market appeal

Preferred but not required experience/skills

· Ability to see the bigger picture within the context of serving customers on busy days

· Basic understanding of pricing of product and willingness to adjust to our methods

· Understanding of current consumer trends and desires regarding quality and maturity of produce

· Experience or ability to train in: Fork lift and non-CDL truck driving

Skills/other requirements

· Must demonstrate an awareness of group dynamics

· Must be comfortable in social settings

· Must have a basic understanding of math

· Must be able to stand, walk, bend, climb throughout the entire workday, often at a fast pace, as well as lift, stack and maneuver heavy boxes of produce of 40 lbs.

Primary responsibilities:

· Creating new displays for seasonal produce as it comes in or changing those in need of a “facelift”

· Maintaining high quality control of product on shelf

· Collaborating with market manager and production managers

· Leading the team– delegation of responsibilities, coaching/training staff

· Instructing and teaching staff and customers on product information and farming practices as it is relayed by production managers.

· Maintaining organization of the department and performing general housekeeping – cleaning and sanitizing the work areas and discarding of compost, etc.

· Adhering to food safety standards

· Managing inventory and product orders

· Participating in plans for sales growth

Physical requirements:

This position will require a relatively high energy level and a high degree of mobility. Long periods of walking and standing are required for the duration of the shift. The job requires the lifting, carrying, and adjusting of containers of produce weighing up to 40 pounds. (Weaver’s Orchard will make reasonable accommodations as required by ADA.)

Physical appearance:

Due to the nature of this position, and the image we wish to convey, we require conservative, neat/ clean attire. Additionally, the individual shall not have visible tattoos or piercings other than ear piercings deemed to be conservative by management. Hair color shall appear natural (i.e. not green, purple, etc.) and style shall be conservative. Any other requirements will be found in the Employee Handbook.

Structure:

This position is categorized as full time. The individual must be dependable and reliable. Shifts are flexible, but include evening, weekends, and holidays. The produce manager is expected to work at least 3 out of 4 Saturdays a month during the summer and fall seasons.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
